I agree with commander, life is too short to be complaining about a username :(

the fact that it hasn't been mentioned before is not really the issue in my opinion, i have always considered it "unusual" that it has not been addressed before

It has been brought up several times that I know of (and I've only been here a year) there was one topic I put up with a link to the comedy TV series "Fonejacker" and because the clip I linked to (didn't embed the video - even placed a warning of possible bad language with it!) contained swearing the whole topic was removed.

And there was the other time that Dougal mentions when he told a joke which contained similar words to Jammy's screen name, and the only "addressing" that was done was basically the attitude of "if you don't like it, tough". Which isn't a very responsible attitude in my opinion.

We all appreciate the work the moderators do in keeping the forum running and donating their spare time and most of us are aware of the huge amount of work that goes on "behind the scenes" keeping everything going. That isn't, and never has been, in dispute. But sometimes you have to be a man about things and hold your hands up and say you were wrong, or at least listen to what the others have to say and accept it (without calling them scrotes). I think I speak for most people when I say I would respect the admin more if they treat us with respect and follow the same rules we have to abide by!

"Complete Flocker" isn't a half bad pun & isn't likely to cause offence unless you've no flocking idea about customised interiors.

Jammy does have the keys to the toy box, so can pretty much please himself at the end of the day.

That said, nobody actually uses his full, self selected, epithet so there's no practical need to justify using it.

TMF is a considerable achievement by those who devised and maintain it & I'd hope they take full advantage of that as evidence of their abilities to further their careers or in any other way. I don't think Jammy's full screenie serves him well in that respect.

My, well intentioned, advice would be to consider if it's use is appropriate; at least in the less frivolous parts of his cyber kingdom.

I'd guess it's something where people have already had an opinion but haven't mentioned it because they value and respect Jammy's efforts over TMF more - since this has surfaced on the forum they are just taking the opportunity to air their views.

People will know in their own hearts what is appropriate or offensive to others or seems to be hypocrisy.

Wow, I go on holiday and come back and everyones arguing again. Big surprise. If people have an issue with the word basturd, why wait till now to complain about it? I guess we'd better add bullock to the swear filter too. How many 5 year olds read this forum? And if they're computer savvy enough to get on here then I'm pretty sure they can find worse things than the word basturd.

Ok ok i wish i hadnt started this topic!

Fact= no one should need to swear in their posts . if you need to add some punch to a topic with regards to you feelings you can use one of the smillies.

Fact= people are frustrated that links with mild swearing are being removed.

Fact= no one looks on here under the age of 13

Fact= my 11 year old would look at the word basturd and know its a attempted swear word. But she wouldnt take offence or repeat the word, she goes to a quality school and hears far worse words every day.

Fact= we are in need of a compremise between users and mods regarding links with mild swear words.

family forum? i think we need to aim at people 14 years and over, and every 14 year old i know will be fully aware of all the swear words you can think of.

lets make it a mini drivers forum not a family forum.

if their are any members of 13/ 14 years old on here on here, do they watch cathrine tate or little britain?

bet my bottom dollar on it! ooops i said the word Bottom :(

If that's the case then why is swearing banned on TMF?

No-one is really arguing over the fact swearing is banned, but over the hypocrisy surrounding topics being deleted/closed/locked because they contain swear words or swear words deliberately mis-spelt to get round the profanity filter yet Jammy's name is the latter.

No need for swear words on a family forum full stop. It's not big and it's not clever. I for one vote for all swear words to be baned from this forum from today on words.
The most disgusting swear words ever invented are used on this forum all the time and it must stop now. Yes the swear word I hate most is "BMW MINI"
As I have said before It's not big and It's not clever. Well I suppose it is Big compared to a real Mini but but still not Clever. >:(

Pies views on swearing on TMF

Right, lets loko at it this way. You are typing on a computer. When you were tying essays for your GCSE's, A Levels etc etc you didnt include swearing, why? Because you didnt need to and you would more than likely get into trouble for this.

In everyday life yes ok people swear, i swear a lot and have a vast collection of "naughty" words. But i rearely type them, theres no need.

As for the TMF staff, before i was "introduced" as a member of staff i didtn realise how much actually goes on behind the scenes.
As some of you know i was then drafted in with the bh2n team last year and this year Sue (Che), Mike (RacingGreen) Leigh (Barnett) and myself have all worked our socks off, aswell as the admin of Nick (brawlyrox) Jammy charlie( CharlieBrown) and (prurple) tom helping out whereever possible inbetween moderatoing the forum.
Then of course theres all the docs who give out their advice for free
The moderators also do a great job, patrolling the forums all day and removing any "unlawful" posts.

If some of you thought the TMF staff were just the regioal area managers, admin and mods, have a look at the staff list at the bottom of the forum.

As for jammys name, im not offended by it, its been like that since the day i signed up to this forum when 15000 members seemed a dream.

and Matt you said the other day you were stepping down, will be a shame. Youve been a great friend a great help, especially with the malvern show, and youve done TMF proud. Will see you in Germany dude.

oh dear now we're going to get on to bini bashing.

at the end of the day how is anyone supposed to satisfy everyone on a forum that has thousands of members. its stupid. if something happens you dont like or disagree with, just push it to the back of your mind and get on with life, it doesnt stop the world spinning! i dont get why a big deal needs to be made out of it?

and if theres something you really disagree with why not PM a mod explaining things rather than post something thats just going to start a heated debate and get everyone arguing and on each others backs.

also in regard to jammys 'immature' comment on the other thread, cant remember exactly what it was now, but i can see how and why he said it out of pure frustration. i know when things get me really frustrated i say some really silly things, ask my girlfriend im sure she'd agree. and i can see why he'd be getting frustrated because things are really getting a bit petty now!

which also brings me on to comments about people 'ass kissing jammy'. i dont know if it was partially aimed at me for some of the comments i have made, but if it was or wasnt i found that pretty rude too. i have been sticking up for the mods and admin but thats not so i can get brownie points! if any one on here knew me, they'd know thats one thing i DO NOT DO. ive almost been thrown out of school because i dont lick boots, and im damned proud of it! if someone gets falsely accused of something, i feel something isnt fair i will say and stand up for what i feel is right. i do it because that is what i feel is the right thing to do, I DO NOT KISS ASS!!!!

rant over! >:(

ive just got back from work, and im *Drunk or yellow human water* off!

A few weeks ago somone had a link in general silly chat to a cardboard portaloo removed because printed on the loo was the s word, this was i thought a bit silly, but i understand that the mod who was responsable for removing it was correct in doing so because of the censor limits set.

as a way forward, would it be an idea to ask the mods to review their levels of censorship.

maybe somthing like this......

swearing (even mild) in posts= not allowed at any time

mild swearing in links= allowed if a warning is put up by the member posting link

strong swearing in links = not allowed at any time

could we aim the censorship at what a 14 year old would find offensive , rather than a 5 year old

perhaps the leader of the mods....(thats Sting isnt it?or is that sommin else? )....could reply and lets us all know that it will be looked into

cheers
