My car went for its MOT today, along with the normal failures like bulbs, horn ect. I failed huge on welding, I paid £1350 for floor pans, cross memeber A posts, A panels, door steps, Inner sills, outer sills and other bits at jonspeed. The main reason why it failed is because alot of the welding was tacked not seam welded, So me and my mate got it to his garage on the ramps and scrapped of the alot of the seam sealer off. My friends dad owns a garage and has given me a second opion on it ( its naff ) were his words. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr : (

What should I do I have spent so much money on this project : (

upset choco

as an mot tester i would say you should take the car to the vosa local area testing station for another mot to see what they make of it.

As has already been stated, your first port of call should be jonspeed.

Depending on the panel a spot weld repair could be acceptable(I've had similar arguments in the past.

I have not dealt with jonspeed myself, however when problems have been flagged up on the forum(not they wouldn't do otherwise) they seem to deal with them in a fair manner.

if it were me dealing with this matter I wouldn't involve a 3rd party at this point, give them a chance to to put the matter right off their own backs first.

If this approch isn't sucessful then its time to involve VOSA and a call to consumer direct(trading standards)

Good luck

I've seen this in the past, if the garage is not familiar with the MOT law regarding welded repairs on an older car they can fail it because they think that all welded repairs must be seam welded this is not true. It may turn out that Jonspeed haven't done it right but I don't know, but I would be surprised, they have been in business a long time as far as I know.

Post some piccies

Cheers

Local VOSA testing station for a proper MOT. Not that normal MOT stations dont do proper MOT's, i just mean that the VOSA stations should know each part of the test inside out and give you a proper opinion. You will also have the proof of MOT failure sheet from 2 MOT stations to back up your case.

To be fair, if it's been failed incorrectly, the chances of anything being done by VOSA are now zero, as work has been carried out (read the notes on the back of the red VT30 reason for rejection form) Personally i wouldn't be surprised if jonspeed now make this as difficult as possible, as you publicised this complaint to the whole world long before speaking to them to ask them for their opinion. Sorry to sound so harsh, but working in the motor trade myself there's a whole world of people out there who know very little but talk like experts. A little communication would have probably meant the problem had been explained or dealt with and this topic wouldn't exist.
And no i have no relation with Jonspeed either.

I agree, take it to them, show them the mot failure and tell them to put it right.
If they don't want to do that, then report them to trading standards.

why do we still not have pictures?

This seems a little strange to *woman of ill repute* off a company and not have any proof.

you had any experience with J-S? you might understand if you had. they have their faithful and regular customer base, but if they see a chance to exploit, trust me they do.

I see that almost everybody has ignored the fact that there is a possibility that the MOT tester is at fault, as it hasn't been checked independently and Jonspeed has had no chance to see the vehicle yet and advise.
If they are at fault then surely normal common sense would be to contact them first to discuss the failure. As it stands now, it's been tampered with by somebody else (who knows nothing about the MOT complaint process) which has destroyed the chance of a MOT appeal, and if Jonspeed say the work is up to standard and it should have passed (god forbid!) it'll be the postwriters problem, who should take it up with the MOT station.
