this has got waaaaay out of hand with most people taking sides. No one knows who is at fault yet until chocolatejazz takes the car back to jonspeed, which from the sound of it he hasnt, and its been quite a few days now.

I dont think its fair to comment on the work done until Jonspeed have had a chance to see it or it has had a second mot/opinion. And Ive got to say id be a little concerned with the behavior of chocolatejazz for not contacting Jonspeed by now, especially after seeing everyones comments - why hasnt this been done yet - this surely raises questions about the poster????

everything else is speculation

chocjazz - CONTACT JONSPEED ASAP!!!!

I am not taking sides but just sympathetic to a mini owner having work carried out at some cost (coulld be repaired by anyone / any mini specialist) and for the mini to fail the next MOT.
It could be an over zelious or inexperienced MOT tester agreed.
The post was started as a request for advise as what to do which the general opinion was to contact the the repairer and as far as I can tell this has not happened.
I am a little suprised noone has from the forum has not had comunication with the discussed repairer who may have made an offer to inspect the car etc ?? Maybe that is me thinking the TMF reaches all parts of the Mini world?

Chocjazz - You can't light the touch paper and retire on this one letting people make there own conclusions on this give them a call.

CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,CALL THEM,

Pure speculation here but I wonder if this car has actually even been to JS?
Could this be the work of a disgruntled ex employee or another garage in competition.

This just doesnt seem right to me....

I don't think anyones that sad to be honest.

This thread is well out of hand now. We should have had a hand full of responses saying "Talk to JohnSpeed" and left it at that.

Right then...from the other side...Carl at Jonspeed has just rang me about this, most upset!
Simon, if only you had taken Bungle's advice on the first page and contacted me, this would have been sorted out and everything would be sweet!
So...(and please correct me if there are mistakes or inaccuracies)
Your lovely GT needed a lot of work doing some of which was started by a mutual friend.
You took it to Jonspeed to complete and they did some of the work needed but ran out of gas BEFORE IT WAS FINISHED!
Carl gave you the option of leaving it there or taking it away and you chose the latter (they even gave you a lift home for which you weren't charged!)
The bill from Jonspeed took rather longer than would be acceptable to be paid...(3 months was mentioned)
There is no way Jonspeed would have put the car in for MOT as they knew the welding WAS NOT FINISHED!
Carl gave you the option to get the work finished which you haven't taken, why is he getting it in the neck for it failing an MOT?
You didn't use the MOT station next door which is Mini friendly and would have allowed things to be sorted straight away.
Knowing you, I am surprised at this being aired on this forum which is now getting well known in the Mini trading/garage community as being quick to moan about stuff before dialogue is entered into between the customer and the supplier and in this case I think they are justified.

I don't have your mobile anymore but mine is still the same so call me please and we can sort this out, like grown-ups!

Now to everyone else who has jumped on the bash Jonspeed bandwagon without the slightest clue what you are talking about, please cease and desist!

I thank you...

You cant blame the forum for moaning, only people moan. And lots of people told him to go back to Jonspeed. So if anything, people like Chocjazz is giving TMF a bad name - why did he bother asking for advice then ignore it?? Nevertheless, people are allowed to express their own opinions on services from any company whether both sides of the story are heard or not - its up to each of us to decide whether to find out the other side of the story before making our own judgements.

Exactly!!! That's what I was saying!

For an un finished job!!
I am obviously not charging enough!!!!!!!

*big sigh* ...the job was not completed because the gas ran out....it wasn't an "unfinished job"
It's the other bits that aren't detailed.....
And if you charge less than 1500 quid for all those panels and the labour then yes, you are undercharging!

More from Carl.....
3 different MOT Testing Stations in Nuneaton send Jonspeed their welding work....it must, therefore be well up to the standard required.
The Ministry have inspected their work to their complete satisfaction and have also agreed that new panels should be spot welded as that was how they were done originally. Any new plates must be (and are) seam welded.

There were seven old sills removed from this car by the way!

On another note Jonspeed were a registered limited company BEFORE Janspeed. Legal action was considered at the time but it was felt that there was more than enough room for the two companies who work together regularly anyway.

I do find it strange that certain members who use Jonspeed a lot are adding to the criticism here....you are biting the hand that feeds you I think!

The reasonable post above, I agree, I thought it should be closed to stop people bashing Jonspeed, and then reopened when mroe evidence, or a reply became available, sounds like TMF gave the correct advice, (i.e. phone jonspeed and talk to them), but it wasn't heeded, which isn't down to TMF.

Anyway...
