I know thats not much help though.
French Immigration may have said that, but what about calling either the British Embassy or French Embassy to claim a Visa of some kind? You never know...(although that does kind of contradict what I said above).

I think you should sneak into the country, (by hiding in someones boot) and then ringing the British Embassy and tell them you lost your passport.
You know it might just work.
Failing that, maybe ali has an idea? he works at the port? lol

The only issue you may have is with the Ferry company, I know all airlines require a passport, even for flights within the EU, but you would have to ring the ferry company to check what they require in terms of identity of their passengers.

The ferry company have said that they'll ship me but French immigrations have said that i MUST have a passport or I will be fined and sent home
They have to catch you first. We'll set up a rolling roadblock and you and dave get your foot down and hide

Its not the case for the UK. We opted out of the agreement to allow this, and as we are not a member of the group of countries that do allow it, we need a passport to enter them. Getting back would be easy, just say you have lost your passport and the British Embassy in Germany would be able to sort things out for you.You don't need a passport to travel within the EU, just a national photographic identity card, your photocard driving license is recognised for this purpose.

It really is easier for immigrants to move around than it is for someone who is perfectly entitled to travel to Europe.
Im sure someone knows how to sail across the channel. Just turn up on a random beach, and we will find you!
On a serious note, I hope you get eveything sorted easily on Friday!
