Guys, It's MY Designer, Monty, in the Minimag issue guide. I don't know whether it's Ltd Ed specific for the model, but all the Designers we've met on our travels in their original garb have Austin grille badges too. ;) - Or whether it's just the case that the only grey grilles available now are Austin badged ones...

When the City and Mayfair got the plain bonnet badge shield that didn't say 'Mini' (some time in 1987/88 I think?), then the grille badge carried the 'Mini' insignia instead.

The 'Designer' has the Mary Quant flower and no Mini marked badge on the bonnet. So that's why the grille should perhaps have the Mini insignia badge instead?

The Mayfair I bought new was registered on the 1/8/88 and it was off the then current stock. If I'd waited a mere month or two, then I'd have had the updated version that had better trim and a stereo radio/cassette as standard.

The console and a bootliner are the only additions I have, Pretzil. I needed somewhere to put my CD player and something else to give me an even floor in the boot  Both are removable though. Just unscrew and put away when needed. Minimag weren't fussed about it as it wasn't a major change to his interior.

Taffy, Monty's reg date is 8/8/88 and when I got him the grille was the only supposedly original bit of his exterior trim bar one decal. He'd been chromed up by a young lad with no clue about his heritage ;)

He had an Austin badge then and is registered as an Austin Designer... the others of his kind I've seen have also had Austin badges. I don't really think it's a fighting point though. *Grins* Austin-Rover were known to mix and match parts so maybe they had a surplus of grey Austin badged grilles that they used on some. Either that or, as I said, it's down to those who have restored Designers only being able to get Austin badged grey grilles now?

mines the same badge in this pick so the same as yours i beleive
the only mods iv done is take the casset player out and store it and put my cd player in and my sub  but like you say same as yours a few screws and its back to original. the other thing i noticed tho was you had black exterior insted of grey? unless its just the pic making it out that way

It's the pics, trust me Monty is black and grey, as he should be! ;) Just take a look at him in my sig, can see it much better there. Trim-wise, apart from this contentious badge, he is completely original inside, outside and under the bonnet. Even down to his original, bright yellow engine block

hehe why do you need five interiors? Im going insane with mine at the moment - Ive scrubbed it three times by hand and used the vax three times, and its still not as clean as it should be (in my mind at least). Im not being obsessive, it seriously is quite grubby :turtle: Has anyone dared to put theres in the washing machine?

Pretzil - let me know about the stuff you're designing - I'll definitely want to have a look! And YES Daisy and I would LOVE to be in the crew!
