Just had a good read through your progress so far, what a great build and some great work there, you will have one nice solid mini at the end of this :)

When ever I finish doing any welding I always give it the bang test with my fist, it's almost like my seal of approval to show how solid it is now.

Quick update, managed to get an hour in the garage to clean up the closing plates and strip some of the boot floor ready for primer.

So it's been a while since my last post and i 've made a little progress.

Firstly i've got the rear valence welded in place, with the exception of the drivers side, under the rear light as this area is going to need some attention later so I will leave it un-spot welded for now.

With that done I was able to turn the shell over and put it back the right way up. I've made a little trolly to put it on to enable me to move it in and out of the garage more easily.

The next area to get some attention is the front scuttle corner.

What I plan to do is to cut away the lower part of the scuttle and replace it with a piece cut from a magnum repair panel.

I had thought about making up a flanged panel from sheet metal but for the cost of the repair panel I thought it best to start with something (very) roughly the right size.

hopefully get a bit more done this weekend.

Nick

Thanks folks, just trying to keep everything as neat as possible where it'll be seen, the underside is another matter as that will only be seen by me and the MOT man,

Jimmy - yes it is apple jack green, lovely colour but don't make the mistake I did and paint the bonnet black. I didn't make the Mr bean connection until it was too late - DOH !!

So yesterday I'm explaining to my 7 year old son that I need to go buy a closing panel for "his" mini, to which he replies " can't you just make one ? " Never one to shy away from a challenge I've had a go.

First I traced round the one I did have which is for the off side.

And before you say yes I did remember to fold it the opposite way :)

Not a bad effort if I do say so myself, I'll weld and clean it all up when I can make some noise.

OK so i have to admit i got a little carried away tonight and went and fitted the closing panel without taking any photos of it before fitting. so here it is after fitting. I've also started cleaning up the inner wing ready for a splash of primer.

I am, however, finding it a royal pain in the arse cleaning between the slats where the radiator sits, any advice anyone ?

Meanwhile really enjoyed Bingley mini show this weekend and came away with this baby

That's the last of the main shell panels (I think) so there's no stopping me now :)
