Nice to see this coming together, will you be tubbing the other arch too? :)

the tubbing was done all wrong I have been advised :D so we've got to re-instate an original inner arch, and then start again...........Shifty to the rescue

I really do think he needs a cape making for him!

Is it going to be done the normal way ie. New strip of metal welding around seam and lip ?

It would have to be a very short cape otherwise I'd trip over it!!

(and nope, its not gonna be done the "conventional way", watch this space!!)

alex will be rolling his eyes, but yes - I class it as a 2.1 16v turbo, but its more like 2056 cc.

oh - and this is the build thread :D

in fairness I just realised the front end of the thread started as me having fun with daft electronics, and it developed into the build thread, and the kind mods moved it into this esction - so heres the potted history

shifty buys orange mini as unstarted project from Jenny and Mark to make use of running gear for Spudnik

shifty realises shell is pretty good, asks me if I want it
I said yes
mini is named Shaggy
shaggy comes to coventry
I spend my kids college fund
and were pretty much up-to date

project target is:

mid weight, steel and carbon fibre body
Posted Image
300 ( ish ) BHP red-top 16V turbo in an alspeed frame - side mounted WRX turbo like this
Posted Image
2 seater with custom dash and lightweight interior trim
Posted Image
high quality, lightweigh sound sysytem ( vibe lite -range )
Posted Image
14" wheels over super sized front disks and 6 pots by MRA minis, and rear disks from Mk 2 Golf
Posted Image
Posted Image

its also having a bunch of other custom tweaks:

bespoke rear light pods
bespoke front lights
roll cage
billet rear arms and front top arms ( MRA MINIS )
bespoke hubs, flanges and CV's up front for 100mm PCD and heavy duty driveshafts
custom dashboard via use of i-phones, ipods and rev-lite software ( this is on the wish list but may work )
custom boot fit out for Vibe amps

etc etc etc

:D

turns out the bottom arms, tie bars and peddle box were 'replicas' - too many people ripping off the originals methinks, and having concerns over quality, fitness for use and to a degree some safety concerns I have bitten the bullet and ordered brand new items from Alspeed.

Its stretched me a bit, but hey - who needs food ??

picking up a week on Friday :

Subframe brace bars
1 set of ultimate bottom arm
1 pair of one peice billet driveshafts ( beautiful and nicer than sleeved shafts )
1 pair outer cv joints, extra heavy duty mini hub fitting
Gearshift lift bkt to suit standard vaux gearstick
Laser cut altenator blank plate for front mounting.
