When double clutching through gears, should you take the clutch to the floor, or like I do and just dip it say a third to half way?
Feb 17 2016 06:28 PM
-
Steve220
Why are you double clutching?

3rd to 2nd syncho

You will be pressing the clutch pedal to come out of 3rd, and also to go into 2nd, so in both cases you need to have the clutch fully depressed. The only question would be when letting the clutch out in neutral between the gears, do you need to let it fully out, to which I would say you could probably get away with only letting it out half way or so, as the point is just to spin the gears up in neutral.

Washed the mini - the colour is the worst - any slight spec or smudge stands out :(

A simple way of knowing when my oils is getting low is once the gears start getting a bit notchy, its on the min line... Hmmm

I take it you don't change the oil every 4k miles. :)

That's about right Haha, rocker cover gasket has been leaking that's the main problem - the engine its self doesn't 'use' much at all got to get around to that gasket!

Yep, I've had the same problem in the past. :(

Am I right in thinking the late minis, mpi years, had the same engine, cooper or not (apart from the works stuff etc..)

What are the differences on the SPi and the SPi Cooper? I thought those were mainly rebadged.

different cam, higher compression ratio, ecu gave a richer mixture, different final drive

Random thought, how secure are the locks on the late rover minis? I'd guess about as good as all of the previous ones with that design, which is not very? Haha

Took the wheel off and there was a black line that matched where I thought it wanted moving to, do I'd guess that it was straight and that it's been moved before.

You can, but there's nothing to say that might be wrong. However, give it a go!

any tips on how to reduce the sound of the rad fan inside the cabin? (bar removing it!)

never ever have I heard the fan over the induction/exhaust/road noise

Aha same, even with a metal export fan I can only hear it when the bonnets open and i'm stood next to it.
Used Dynamat on my latests resto, makes a massive difference even when used sparingly

You're not going to make a night and day change as the later mini's come with a fair bit of sound proofing. I would suggest checking all your engine mounts and tie bar bushes are OK as the vibrations will travel through the body if they're perishing.

I keep seeing minis on 10's that I like... But I just brought new 13" tires and overhauled all the brakes - plus my bank account says no.. But... Ahhhrhhggg, help me! Haha

Just keep your eyes open and pick the bits up bit by bit. Some ap 7.5" calipers went for 60 on the bay the other week

It's certainly something I like the idea of doing, but I dont want to 'mess up' my mini as right now it has it's original wheels and arches... (sportspack)
I have been considering the following routes:
keep it the same - original and doesn't look too bad from the right angles...
deepdish 13's to better fill sportspack arches
Keep current wheels and look at different arches that aren't as 'over the top' as the s...

You're not the only one! :) Got some deep dished 7x13s and I've also got some exactions that I'm considering getting made into 2 piece - can't make my mind up!

I don't want to end up full time in retail, I just picked up a retail job before Christmas and this is the issue I had when getting the job! As mentioned above, how do they prove you don't have experience? Hehe
