Drove almost 70 motorway miles today with an almost pancake rear tyre. The rusty 2 inch nail was the reason it was handling like a pig, not the crappy weather I was blaming :-) Love it when the tyre place goes "yeah, repair that easy - £20.00"

-
OhDear
if you have done more than 1 mile on a soft tyre i would bin it as the side walls will be foooked.

Nope. All thoroughly pressure tested and inspected. Nothing else wrong with it. Michelins are tough.

Few tiny rust bubble repairs to scuttle, top of A panel, headlight seam and a bit of a chunk on the rear valance - £400 plus VAT. Jeez, you have to be either minted or do it yourself to afford a Mini these days.I can see why so many are just left to get really rotten.

Though conversely, good money to be have if you start your own business!

Is that quote to rub down and re-paint the rusty areas or is it to cut out and replace those areas?
Hopefully the latter because mini's rust from the inside out, especially on the seam under the headlight. If it's just rubbed down and re-painted then you would just be chucking £400 away im afraid as the rust will return quickly unless its chopped right out.

Well, apparently not as a one man band. My guy (who's straight as anything) can only charge a max of £40 an hour. Any more than that and he loses out to other garages employing more than one person. His rent and everything has shot up meaning he's actually earning less than he was 5 years ago. 10 hours work is actually about right - little bubbles mean a bigger problem. Ok if you can work out of your own garage I guess. Biggest expense is overheads.

If the woman sitting opposite me on this train says another fake-sweetie "awww, bless" in response to just about everything her friend tells her one more time, I'm going to throw my tea at her.

I got off at Reading once, but that's a WHOLE other story!

This is unbelievable. I traded my 230,000 mile Golf in a year and a half ago, and now the new owner has approached that garage complaining the head gasket has gone and wanting the repair. The garage are asking me to make a statement declaring I had no knowledge of any issues. I'm so ignoring this!

What a joke!

Ignore it! As soon as the car left your hands, it's no longer your responsibility

I wouldn't bother replying to that, it's utterly pathetic!

Great visit to Manchester yesterday. Only downer was a little toddler called Alan (Alan!) who screamed non-stop on the bus from Piccadilly station to the Arndale centre. Thanks Alan.

Unusual name for a youngster these days. My dad is called Alan and he is 65!

Last day with the Mini today before she goes under wraps for the winter :-(. Been a great summer this one.

I'm not sure if you can buy it monthly as it were. I think you can pay for it monthly by DD. Not sure how it works if I only want to take it for a few months at a time. I can't believe the DVLA will allow people to just tax a car for, say, 2 months of the year if they wanted? Anyway, she's got to go in and have the skuttle and a few bits sorted so not too worried. I never have her on the road past September anyway.

The only thing i'm not sure about is if you have to commit to 6 months or 12 months when paying DD Surely you could tax it, pay the first 1 or 2 instalments and then cancel it?
Sep 28 2014 06:25 PM -
HarrysMini
That's what I would do, Ben. I'm sure I read you can just tax for a month or two though.

Drove a car with this "citysafe" fuction today. Could have quite easily nipped out and round the lorry blocking the roundabout but the car had other ideas and braked itself. Not sure whether I was impressed or annoyed with it. Too many stupid gadgets on cars these days.

Yeah, its the stupidest thing ever

We have a ds3 in the body shop with the auto braking thing and it now doesn't work because the car was rear ended
Sep 25 2014 03:34 PM -
Miniminx71
I'm not surprised it was rear-ended. If anyone had been following me they would've probably shunted me. It was a real "slam on the brakes" thing. I didn't know what the hell was going on.

Just watched two magpies harrassing a huge buzzard circling in the sky. Went on for about 10 minutes and then the buzzard just flipped upside down and snatched one of the magpies and flew off with it. Awesome.

-
Miniminx71
It was very exciting. I wonder what would have happened if you had seen it and thrown your last cheese sandwich into the air. Could've saved the magpie!

Anyone else getting this weird lightning? Almost constant but no thunder or rain. Is it something to do with Scotland?

-

We had a weird thunderstorm this morning. Almost an hour of loud thunder every 15 to 20 seconds.
