1st time riding a fixie, brakeless, icy rain, late at night, had a great ride. Only thing I was uncomfortable with was the fact it's still got brand new track tyres, that new shine plus massive puddles didn't seem like a good combination. Also, never ridden a bike with those straps to hold your feet on the pedals, couldn't get the hang of those. Get one foot in fine, set off, but then I can't for the life of me get the second foot in. The pedal just spins round the wrong way. And I can't coast and sort it out since it's a fixie! Argh!

Rode the bike home from the station, part of the route involves my usual route from uni to home. Got home and I wasn't even out of breath, I felt brilliant!

anyway, please forgive me for this but i thought this topic needed a few "road" pics, after all, that's what we all look at when we are out
i was feeling naff after abandoning yesterdays cold ride so i went out again and managed 26.5 miles, my longest since getting back on a bike and to be honest it went really well. average speed over all rides seems to be around 16.5mph but I'm blaming the hills for that.
so, the pics...
this is "just" off the A5 and heading out to the lanes...

some people may recognise this, its the road heading down to Stanford Hall....

the bike at Stanford Hall...

and it all goes a bit arty from here, cant resist putting a tint on a nice cloudy sky

this is looking back down the road towards Stanford, its a nice gradual climb for about two miles...

and looking ahead to where I'm going, the hills climb up quite steep towards Cold Ashby, but I'm not going to brave that just yet....

and if you think it all looks nice and peaceful, the A14 is just below me

so i cut across the hill and head back towards Rugby....

down a really short steep hill and up a nice gradual climb out of the "valley". this is looking back from the other side...

and then down again into the village of Yelvertoft. a nice small decent that turns into another easy long climb if tackled from the other direction.

I put the camera way then

It's track geometry so the pedals are higher up so no problems there, I can lean it quite far over. Had a few sketchy brakeless incidents today, but nothing major. Went to bike shop and bought a decent brake, cable and lever. Bought a BMX lever because that's apparently the "in" thing to do with all the London fixie riders, unfortunately, like my usual self, I didn't realise they're all running on them on straight "freestyle" bars, not drops. So it doesn't fit. Typical. I don't want a drop style brake lever so I'm currently wondering how to bodge the BMX lever on.
EDIT: Zip ties are quite obviously the answer....! I'm a professional bodger, and this way when I convert it to freestyle bars I don't need yet another lever.
