Hi

No more welding done for a couple of weeks due to the cold weather, but i have stripped the front calipers, the pistons were well past their best, i have obtained some new seals, stainless pistons, pads and fitting kit, i will fit them back together later this week, i have also got the front and rear harnesses back which have been re-wrapped, new connectors where necessary and a new fuse box has been fitted, i will take some photo's later this week.

Hi
Made some more progess this afternoon, got the shell out of the garage (first time in 4 years) and turned it around to start on the other side.

The NS quarter panel was just as much a bodge as the OS, too many flanges, poor welding and loads of corrosion

Posted Image

The quarter panel is now removed along with a section of sill that was corroded, then a dilemma, the edge of the arch was completely rotten but i had bought a complete arch panel, as the shock absorber mount and back face of the arch were in excellent condition i decided to cut my new heritage arch to just repair the corrosion :dontgetit:

Arch cut out and quarter panel removed

Trial fit of arch repair

Just need to clean upall the flanges and weld the arch back together and spot the quarter panel on.

Will post some more piccies when the welding is done.

Gary

Hi Craig,

Just use a 2" disc cutter, drill out any spot welds and measure, measure and measure again!

Hi Happy New Year to one and all.

Well had two weeks off over Christmas and never picked up the welding torch ;D but i did manage to get some work done on the engine, the diff bearings and the baulk ring on second were shot so i removed the gearbox and replaced it with a nearly new transmission that i had waiting in the wings.
The power unit i am fitting was originally from an MG metro so has the big valve 12G940 head, as the engine has done a few miles i decided to remove the head, have it skimmed and regrind all the valves, i have also drilled out the blanking for the heater control valve so that i can fit one from a Mini.
I changed the timing chain to a duplex type, fitted a Mini timing chain cover and also changed the clutch actuating system to the Hydraulic Mini type.
I also removed the Modine cooler and am going to fit a standard oil filter mounting when i can get hold of a screw in adapter and metal feed pipe.
The block received a good clean with some brake cleaner and a couple of coats of Red engine laquer (not concours but i intend to use it regulary)
The plan is to use this powerunit to get the car on the road then upgrade to a 1380, so if anyone has a short 1275 A+ engine (that needs a rebuild) they want to get rid of (cheap) in the Bromsgrove area please let me know.

I will endeavour to get back in the garage later on a take a couple of shots of the powerunit now its all shiny and post them up asap.

Well thank you sir.

My original Mini was totally standard but this one will have a more modern twist, 12x6 deep dish super lights, possibly group 2 or 5 arches and fully adjustable suspension, hopefully the paint will be even more shiny than the first one as i have had a few years of spraying practice since then! ;D
