First off today I had to modify the latch that is going to go onto the inside of the boot:

Posted Image

It will make it easier to house, which is what I stated to make next:

Posted Image

I'll weld these together tomorrow at work :) , then a bit of bending, and it will be the perfect housing for the latch.

Also, does anyone know of any really strong adhesive that will never come off, and can handle a lot of pushing and pulling?

Next up was time for fabricating a bracket for the inside lactch, for the boot latch to lactch onto lol :gimme: :

Its very simple, but it will do the job :P . When I have found the perfect angle for it, I might weld a support piece on the underside of the bracket to strengthen it ;D .

At last, but not least, throughout the afternoon I had been spraying my boot:

Posted Image

Its not looking to bad at the minute :D .

Also today I rang MED to see how my block and crank were getting on, but not good news :) , still not done yet :xmas: . And it wont be done until the end of next week :tumble: , but I asked him how much it was going to be, and for:

  • +40thou bore
  • Cam bearings
  • Reface
  • Pockets
  • And reground and heat treated crank

He said we can do a deal around £300 cash =] , which I think is not a bad deal, what do you all think  ?

Boots looking nice :)
How many coats have you given / giving it?
Boot latch looks to be coming along now.
Not great about the wait with the engine bits, but will definately be worth the wait :P
Price seems ok too. Thought he would have knocked a bit more off for cash though.

Yer it doesn't look bad, not sure how many coats I have given it, just kept doing it until everything was covered lol :P . And the boot latch is looking ok at the moment, I can't wait to see what I come up with in the ned lol :) . Yer the engine stuff has really anoyed me now :gimme: , he said £330 for it all, but if I bring £300 we can come to a deal :D . Just not sure how long the engine is going to take now, that is the only thing I'm waiting on now :) , could be 1 month could be 3 =] .

Was £330 cash or was that full price? If that was retail, I'd expect around £40 - £50 off that.
Once the engine bits are ready, it shouldn't take long to build, Mine was a lot easier than expected, although not quite done yet!
Have you sorted a Cam Kit out yet??

£330 was retail, he never said a final price for cash, just that we will sort something out on the day, Steve was in a rush as usual. I really need the old engine out now, to start to rebuild one of the gearboxes, and to sort the engine bay out. No cam kit sorted yet :) .

Yes it would be a good idea to get the engine out of the car. It will save rushing when the engine is ready to be built.

Are you going to rebuild the box yourself?

I think there is quite a few other bits you will need for the engine build i.e big end and main bearings, thrust washers, core plugs, oil gallery plugs, new con rod bolts, cam, duplex timing pulleys, followers, oil pump, possible head?, and all the gaskets.

I think there will be around £250 worth there without the head.

I am going to be sticking that steel to the inside of the fibreglass boot. Dad had a good idea, he said the steel might not stick very well to the fibreglass, so drill a few holes in the steel to allow for the adhesive to come through, if you get what I mean :) ? Or my other idea was to put stips of fibreglass over it as if dries very hard, and should hold it  .

I'm not sure, I don't know if I should just reuse the one off the old engine, but thats had 70k miles through it. And its just another huge expense out of the fund :P . Yer I know I'll need all those things, but they can be purchased from Mini Spares or somewhere.

Now you have said all that, it seems like it will never get done :) .

Course it will get done, I'm just trying to make sure you dont forget anything :)
MED do those cam kits cheap, for £175 (retail), which includes a Piper cam with your choice of profile, a Piper vernier setup with new chains, a new oil pump and new followers. Thats pretty much all you need bar gaskets & bearings, which can be bought cheaper from mini spares.
dont worry, we'll sort it. At least you are only paying for parts and saving a small fortune for building it ourselves :P

My Dad said he has some 'No Nails' stuff and he said that is quite strong, or I might be able to get some Evo Stick from work, but I'm not using it at the moment so might be hard  , I'm going to see what we have in the garage tomorrow and I'll report back, thanks Carls :P .

when are you removing the engine??

honestly this stuff is brill...... when we try to remove a panel off an ally frame
we have to chisel them off.. we use a cleaner, primer ,activator then the adhesive.
I don't mind bringing it home..
