started with changing the points, to electronic igintion, really easy to fit!!!

then put a new seal in the timing chain cover, soaked the timing gear in oil and refited the cover

then fitted a load of random bits back onto the engine, so far i've lost 2 theromstat bolts, and the main oil pipe!!!

then dad put in new core plugs for me

and i started on the carb and manifold
i took the carb off the manifold

took off the float camber top to find

yummy petrol...... so i decide to take the carb about and clean it up, i'm used to the hif44 carbs, and will take them apart all day long, bloody filter in there!!!!, but the hs (whatever it is) is all new to me, so i was a bit of learning aswell, and it all seemed to go back together alright, we'll see when we try to start it......

so put it all back together and bolted it back on the engine

excuse the red oxide rocker box, it needs flatting and painting black!!!!
so then it gets a bit interesting, my dad has finally handed the garage over to me, i can't quite believe it!!!,
so dad brought his astra down to jump the morris, and prompty drove it into the garage door, which hit the sky, and the doorpost on the other side!!!, got the morris fired up, very smokey, it needs new valvle stems seals!!, and drove it out of the garage!!!!

this is the first time its moved under its own power for 25 years!!!!
so then lucky there were a couple of blokes in the yard, so we borrowed them, picked up the sky, put it on 4 wheels, moved the axel stands etc inside, picked up the sky again and plonked it inside, so the garage was empty for about 5 mins!!!

with loads of space behind to work on stuff

and enough in front, we might move it back later

and a very empty space outside.....

so i'm really chuffed, i don't think dads too happy about being turfed out of the garage, but his car is inside, and drivable to get it back up to the garage, and i'm not pressuring him to get it finished, so i can get in the garage.
so one mini in a lovely dry garage, all ready to start on rubbing down (and a bit of filler work, mainly on the passenger rear quarter around the repair), cleaning all the grinding dust off, and primer!!!! just gotta learn how to mix and spray it!!!!
oh and LIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!

no its raining now, and the sky is inside in the dry!!!!
the garage has been full with projects since sept 06, i've been waiting 2 and half years to get in there!!!
i primed a boot before.... i gonna learn it tho, because my dad work late so won't be able to do it in the evenings for me, so have no choice but to learn......

i have to say the blokes at the farm do have a weird sense of humor!!!
love it, anyway, made another seat cover, only one main piece and headrest to do, and all the fittings

and the sky

so todays job and for the next few days is to clean the shell up to get it ready for priming and painting, which hopefully depending on weather will be painted on 21st/22nd, in 3 weeks time.....
so the main problem i have is grinding dust!!!, i didn't keep it as clean as i should of done, but hey, so i've got a scour pad and will be rubbing all the crud off!!! the main body is fine because it will all be rubbed down, so its mainly the inside and under the boot floor and rear arches that need sorting. there are a few other bits that need wire brushing, and i need to weld the top and bottoms of the a panels on!!!
so rear parcel shelf

and front floor

and boot floor

its looking alot better, i'm quite happy how its cleaning up, i'm gonna take some more pads up tomorrow to give it another go,
then i need to sort out the inside of the roof

i've scrapped the sound proofing off, now i just need to get some white spirt on it to get the glue off and wire brush the roof,
most of the shell is really straight only with a few little dents, so it should be quite easy to prep for paint, hopefully!!!!

I see what you mean from grinding dust etc, the rear shelf was in a bad way but has cleaned up well to your treatment! Keep up the good work
and sand..... it was really bad!!!, the front floor was really thickly covered in crud!!! doh!!!, its stupid because we got a wicked air line to blow it all away, i;m just lazy!!! LOL

You will learn, once you get the hang off it you will be ok, its mainly keeping the wet edge, nice even fan and good distance with the spray good, to close can cause runs and to far away dry spray... you will pick it up.... i went to collage and learnt but to be honest i learnt more at home trial and error painting my first ever restoration minor 1000 van..... and won shows with it so the paint job was good for a first time, thing is whatever mess you MAY make it can always be wet flatted down and start again.... im confident you will pick it up for sure

cheers, i think dad will do the final spray, so primer won't be tooooooo important (ish), i'm hoping dad will give me a quick lesson at the weekend, then like you say trail and error and practice to get it right!!!!
