Thanks for the nice comments guys, feel more motivated now.
Thanks Ed, means alot coming from yourself, love what you do with your mini's, lots of unique and original ideasVery Very Impressed with this, i really dont know how ive missed it before!
twin tanks look top, they genuine s? that indicator/flasher you got was cheap, they tend to break though.... lol ive had about 3... you using it in a mk3 column or you going mk2 with the ignition in the switch panel?
love the wheels alot, you should do them black and polish the high parts, nom nom!
this really is fantastic, the kevlar front, the hinges and clips, the colour, the red bits, the rear brakes i could go on...
seriously great though
ok, ill stop
lol
EdIm not sure about the tanks, bought them as a pair but not sure how to tell if there geniuine or not. I'll be using a mk2 column and using the ignition in the switch panel, I think they looks ace like that.
Nice idea on the wheels, did go through my mind about having black wheels but I thought with the amount of tyre on show it would be a bit too much black but the polish would have been a nice touch, having them done just silver now though for the time being, can easily refurb them myself at a later date if I like.
Chris
thanks for the kind words, I like to be that little bit different... lol
love the finish on it, that paint is so good
good call on the mk2 column, would look like a mk2/3 crossover when they were using all the mk2 bits up in the factory...
the wheels will look swish in silver too, get them on! i want to see!!
you aren't far from me over in Manchester, well im at Uni now, but when im home im in Halifax....

Well on Sunday we didnt get a deal done as we were getting my dads car ready for the MOT but when we were finished with that we dropped the front subframe and got the shell up on axles. The plan is to build up the front subframe seperately and then simply just bolt in, would be stupid not to with the flip front really.

Look at the underneath! (Sorry not the best picture)

Not sure if Ive shown these before but at Bingley in January I bought some alloy tower bolts from specialist components, should compliment the subframe/shell nicely.

Im going to be reusing the existing hubs so ive given them a good wire brush down today, the bolts holding the steering arms on were a right *woman of ill repute* to undo!

Im only part way through painting red them at the moment, waiting for them to dry to do the otherside is very tedious I found.

I also wire brushed my sump guard which I let get rusty in my old mini in a puddle of water on the back seat

Thats where im upto at the moment. Wont really be needing to touch the mini till the front subframe is built up and I still need to buy a few things yet to able to finish it off.

one word of advice, the hubs you're using, if they are from an 80's car, i found that the steering arms pressed against my S disc setup and put a groove in my disc... you may have to grind them slightly, where they bulge where the bolts go though into the top of the hub... aparently its because they aren't 'S' ones.... I only had this problem on one side though.... it was odd... just check first!!

Found this aswell! something to check as it puts a weak point into the disc and could crack.
Paint and body looks lurrrrvly

Well unfortunetely I wasnt able to do any work on the mini this weekend because I had someone visiting so no mini time. But I was able to spend a little time working out my parts list for next weekend at Himley, money will restrict it though, hopefully my haggling will go well. The main parts will be what will allow me to build up the front subframe apart from the parts for the engine as I havent fully worked that out yet.
Yokohoma A032 (x5)
Top Arm Repair Kit (x2)
Top Arm Grease Nipple; Angled (x2)
Grease Nipple; Straight (x4)
Quickrack Steering Rack (x1)
Swivel Pin Kit (x2)
Competition Shock Mount (x2)
Front Poly Rebound Buffer (x1)
Front Poly Bumpstop (x1)
7.5" Disc Covers (x1)
Hand Brake Cables (x2)
Hand Brake Seal (x1)
Hand Brake Plate (x1)
Petrol Pipe (x1)

Called an anti friction strip this plain looking (plastic)piece of strip is used on all mini steering racks between the U bolt and the rack probably because the U bolt is hard steel and the rack is softer rough cast alloy.
For the sake of £1.00 as opposed to £90.00 for a new rack better safe than sorry really.
