Hi All,

Went down to the garage on Saturday briefly and redid my mk2 steering column since rust had appeared on it since I last worked on it. Not a great task, but basically rubbed down, etch primed and sprayed matt black as per the mk3 one which is currently installed. Will have pics up on another update.

Also had a crack at snazzing up the Astrali steering wheel I bought on the cheap (£15 if memory serves). Just gave the leather a good clean and conditioning but there is still some markings within the leather whcih bugs me. Does anyone else have any recommendations? Will get some pics up of the progress later on.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks for reading gents, comments much appreciated, especially considering the amount of dribble that consists within the 30 pages haha.

Will be down the garage Tuesday, if not earlier, to hopefully give another update shortly after.

Cheers,

Chris

Good price that if they were half decent. Mine were a fair bit dearer but that was because I paid the guy to have them fully refurbished for me as they were in a right state to begin with but at least they are now perfect with all areas sprayed up and not just a face only job. Will dig a photo out of the before photos later.

Hi All,

Went down to the garage today and met up with Steve (Stevede on here) to fit the Mk2 steering column (successful in the end) and run through the outstanding tasks on the mini which for face value isn't too bad a list to be honest, it's just simply getting there that has been the issue for too many a year now!

BUT and it's a fairly big BUT, I think I have decided that a steel front is the way forward as opposed to the carbon fibre flip front. Hear me out.....

Due to the unique way I had tried to work it in order for it to not look like flip front; i.e. 2 piece front riveted together, hidden fixings etc. it has made the front less stable and a true PITA to shut. This has resulted in cracking in the paint on the bonnet due to awkward movability and is leaving marks on the seam strips as well due to not getting the fit right first time around, which all being said is getting me down and will continue to do so. So I think a steel front is the solution (if only my 17 year old self could hear me now!) and from looking at front ends panels at suppliers it's certainly not a cheap solution.

So the plan now is to continue with getting the mini back together until I have my panels and can get the mini into the bodyshop under a reasonable time frame.

Now the question is do I keep to Mk2 or revert to a Mk1 front end whilst I have the opportunity? So Mk2 is the 8-slat Cooper grille and the Mk1 is the Cooper grille or a Van grille..... Decisions. A photo for inspiration;

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Chris

Not moved away Sam. Got Cosmics, GB's, Momo's, Exactons and JAP Magna's. Only the Magna's I'll be moving on (for the right price), the rest will get a set tyres at some point. Need to get the Cosmics refurbed first though.

Cheers
Chris

Panels ordered and will be at the bodyshop mid next week. Whilst researching panels I couldn't believe how much panels have gone up in cost just between the period I've had the mini. All Heritage ordered.

It's going to be an expensive month for the mini......

So the mini has been at the body shop just over a week now. No progress photo's but I have been told panels are on which is exciting in itself (or at least for me!). Hoping to have it back end of next week.

Any guesses for whether I have gone down the mk1 or mk2 route? Was definitely in two minds over it especially with the messing about needed in order to achieve the mk1. Answers on a postcard....

Cheers

Chris
