Hi All,
Went down to the garage today and met up with Steve (Stevede on here) to fit the Mk2 steering column (successful in the end) and run through the outstanding tasks on the mini which for face value isn't too bad a list to be honest, it's just simply getting there that has been the issue for too many a year now!
BUT and it's a fairly big BUT, I think I have decided that a steel front is the way forward as opposed to the carbon fibre flip front. Hear me out.....
Due to the unique way I had tried to work it in order for it to not look like flip front; i.e. 2 piece front riveted together, hidden fixings etc. it has made the front less stable and a true PITA to shut. This has resulted in cracking in the paint on the bonnet due to awkward movability and is leaving marks on the seam strips as well due to not getting the fit right first time around, which all being said is getting me down and will continue to do so. So I think a steel front is the solution (if only my 17 year old self could hear me now!) and from looking at front ends panels at suppliers it's certainly not a cheap solution.
So the plan now is to continue with getting the mini back together until I have my panels and can get the mini into the bodyshop under a reasonable time frame.
Now the question is do I keep to Mk2 or revert to a Mk1 front end whilst I have the opportunity? So Mk2 is the 8-slat Cooper grille and the Mk1 is the Cooper grille or a Van grille..... Decisions. A photo for inspiration;

Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks
Chris
