Slight update on the parts front.

Got my alternator plug clip from Classic Mini Bits, pretty quick postage so all positives from me with them.

Now going to my manifold issue with Moss Europe. Phoned up today to find that Oz was unfortunately off work ill but regardless I wasn't a happy bunny as I was expecting this manifold for last weekend so created a bit of fuss that first of all they supplied a product that isn't fit for purpose in my opinion and then they seemed to be dragging their feet with fixing it for me. In which to be fair to them the guy on the end of the phone (Steve) was very apologetic and couldn't do enough to help. So the end result was me suggesting getting a refund on the stainless and them supplying me with a Mild Steel Maniflow Manifold which they luckily had in stock, so I went down during my lunch to pick it up in which Dave (the manager) sorted me out with the Maniflow, apologised and gave me a hefty discount on the Maniflow Manifold itself which was a bonus.

Now I know I have had a bit of a winge at Moss Europe but you can't say fairer then that really, good customer aftercare in the end and considering I initially bought the stainless manifold the back end of 2010 according to the invoice I got today I'd say I did very well. So thank you to Moss Europe Manchester :-)

Cheers
Chris

Good news on getting the parts sorted, look forward to seeing the manifold fitted.

Bit of slacking going on here Chris. We spend all day in the rain, fixing the oil leak and getting the brakes & exhaust sorted. We set the car running and actually drive it !!!!!

We even get a video of the event.

Come on lad, pull ya finger out, post an update, people need to know :-)

Hi All!

Right as pointed out by Steve above I have somewhat slacked of recent with updating this thread and to be honest not a lot of work has happened in between but regardless there are updates!

So we had some issues as previously mentioned with a fairly large oil leak coming from the crank/gearbox cover which worried me somewhat. Are first we suspected the gasket just placed incorrectly (which in hindsight didn't make sense with the amount that was coming out, literally gushing!), so we replaced that and needless to say it made little difference and was a waste of time considering how long it takes. Then Steve took a closer look as we stripped it apart for the second time and we found that bolts were going through and pushing on to the gearbox casing. So we cut down the bolts, put it all back together, started it up and problem solved! So may have taken 3 gaskets to get it right but it's sorted now :)

Then we move on to exhaust which I've spoken about previously. Basically that's fitted and fitted like a dream as it being a maniflow, highly recommend them and don't plan on changing for something else any time soon.

Finally got brakes all bled through which was a monster achievement I thought, having functioning brakes. This did involve a bit of trial and error though as the rear brakes didn't seem to want to make a solid seal and let loose of some of the £30 a bottle Automec brake fluid! Fingers crossed though over my 2 months absence from the mini it hasn't leaked a drop, the same with the fuel (we think).

Now the good stuff....

All the above was primary to getting the car running in that the noise didn't annoy any neighbours, it didn't spew anything as I drove along and obviously that I could stop when required! So after 3 attempts (if I recall) we had this...

...running like a bag of nails. Expecting the worst with the previous history of this engine with head related issues, Steve set about looking for plausible explanations as to why. After looking at the spark plugs cylinders 2 and 3 weren't firing up so after checking the distributor it turned out the leads had been put in clockwise as opposed to anti-clockwise (I blame the electrician Steve :shifty: ). Tried again and we had this....

Posted Image

Brilliant! Not perfect but close to the best we are going to get without a tuning session I reckon.

The girlfriend also took a horrible picture of me which I found quite amusing because I look huge in it!

Posted Image

Then we (Steve) moved on to doing some more of the electrics. Now I'm not electrically minded so Steve previously could have been doing anything and I wouldn't have had a clue but basically his efforts are always a build up to multiple things working all at once (with it's own control obviously). So in the space of an hour we had functioning indicators and flashing main beams which was mega, another step closer :proud: ...

Posted Image

So this is pretty much where I am at with the mini to date. The only thing that is going on in the background is the refurbishment of my 6x10 cosmics which I will update with accordingly (hopefully later today if I get round to them).

So if you read all the above and made it hear, thanks for reading and any comments are always bonus and an encouragement to me :D

Cheers
Chris

Haven't got round to the cosmics today but I have been thinking wing mirrors. What does everyone think of these?

Bit pricey but generally you get what you pay for when you go to Moss Europe I find.

Don't worry about looking big in a mini, I find it has a tendency to manage that lol.

What a stunner you have, after chatting with you regarding the cosmics I thought I should have a look at your mini, can't believe I missed this thread!

Bet your chuffed to be this far with it, not long now, will keep an eye on this! Look forward to hearing more.

Cheers mate. Yep pretty happy with the clock, should go nicely with the fuel consumption (vacuum) gauge.

Thanks Lewis, didn't help that I was sat up high on a toolbox either haha. Yeah really looking forward to getting the Cosmics sorted and on it but to be fair the GB's go really nicely so I may struggle for which takes my fancy really. Yeah feel as though I've got a fair bit through now with the electrics taking shape and also the engine running, hopefully won't be too long till everything else starts to take shape.

Anyone got an opinion on the potential door mirrors?

Cheers
Chris

In the absence of Chris posting any updates recently, I thought I may have a bash and let you, (and him) know what I have been up to.

What seems like ages ago, I collected the grill & spot lamps from Chris, as I had an idea on how we could mount them neatly. 2 small yellow lamps, with a requirement for discrete and neat.

Posted Image

A few ideas & trials before I thought I could use the mounts Chris had bought, along with some spare Carbon Fibre I had. (You know how he loves CF) :-)

Posted Image

Posted Image

A little bit of "adjustment" on the brackets

Posted Image

A slot cut in the CF board

Posted Image

Couple of bolts & washers, the idea being to rivet the boards to the backs of the grille slats.

And Robert's your mothers brother.

Now if you're reading this Chris, I need some 3mm dia x 6mm long pop rivets, (20 should do it) so I can drill some nice holes in your shiny new grille :-) and get the brackets attached.

Have fun

Regards

Steve

Cheers for the bump Steve! You have been busy (at least one of us has!). I will get on the hunt for some rivets and sort something out, don't exactly need a pack of 1000 from Screwfix for £13.

Looks mega regardless, I think I'm getting the idea your going with and I'm liking it very much and with CF involved you can't go wrong!

Yeah I know how you like cutting and drilling into my mini (both parts and shell!).

On another note to keep this updated (sortof) I have bought a mk2 steering rack which was bought as part of a bulk buy including 2 additional mk3+ steering racks, so including my own I now have 3 steering racks which aren't required so if anyone requires one let me know! Plus it also came with a steering wheel which I'm unsure whether to keep or not (to add to the collection) but we'll see how it cleans up first.

I also received mini presents from my godson which *surprisingly* were parts I was after! This included parts to refurbish my mk2 steering rack and the parts required to adapt my carb in order to fit my vacuum gauge :D Happy Days!

So that's it pretty much to date, poor effort from myself but it's been cold and I've been a busy boy with work and uni! Will attempt to have a crack at the steering rack come the New Year to push forward a bit more :proud:

Hope everyone has a good New Year!

Cheers!
Chris

Bit of help required;

http://www.theminifo...ishment-primer/

Wheel refurb making good process other than the above query and have also begun the steering rack strip down.

Stevede sent a few pics of the completed grille which I'll get put up soon, looks mega though, extremely happy with it.

Cheers

Hi all,

Brief update from a while back that Steve sent across to me (apologises for the delay Steve!)

Essentially Steve has come with a brilliant way for me to mount my spotlights on the grille rather than having ugly (imo) brackets on the front panel.

Can you see it?

Ta very much Steve! Very pleased, just need to get around to picking it up now!

In other news not far off getting ready for spraying up the cosmics, the shine is looking fantastic though if I do say so myself, will show in the next lot of pics. May wait for a bit warmer temperatures to do it though so they cure well in between coats.

Also I've decided to go down sandblasting and powder-coating route with steering column to get the best finish for it. It's already stripped it of all that it needs be so it's just finding to time to get it down there really.

That's all really, not much on my behalf but at least it's something I suppose (I think  )

Cheers,
Chris
