I KNOW!!! i was there this morning to let him know where i wanted the stickers because he's going to put them on before the clearcoat. the 4 doors, the bonnet and most random little bit (urinal, rear door hinges etc) should be ready by next wednesday. by then the bottom of the shell should also be painted, and hopefully it will be removed from the rotissery.

ok, enuff with this forum, gotta go give another coat of black paint on the front subframe...

cheers!

hmm. i'm a bit torn between 2 ideas.

at first my plan was to scan a piece of wood and do a long patern with it, make it a shade of dark red close to the color of my seats and then have it printed on a roll of vinyl. i've stripped the old fake wood off of almost all my trims, so next i could just stick the vinyl over and give it a couple coats of clear coat.
then, when out shopping i stumbled upon a roll of carbon fiber imitation sticker. i've always laughed at people using imitation carbon fiber for stuff on their cars, but considering the original part wasnt real wood to start with i decided to give it a shot. its a lot less hassle than having the fake wood strip made, and the carbon imitation is actually very good. i clear coated it once, then did a little red pinstripe, then clearcoated it twice over.

bear in mind that the car will have a black roof, wide (6in) black rims with chrome hubcaps under body color flairs. so its a mix between period street racer with modern touch.

my concern is that its very tone on tone, the chrome makes it come out a lot, but in the shade its almost the same color (carbon vs body).

That side strip reminds me of a mk1 golf gti for some reason, very modern retro, I like!

ted- before sending the car to the paint shop, i've put the front trim back on the car and made fibreglass molds of them with the goal of doing real carbon fiber version. then i did a bit of math and notice it was going to be very time consuming and very expensive. not to mention i never made anything in carbon fiber in my life, so there's the learning curve to consider. Besides, there's a lot of qualified people doing carbon fiber bits on this forum, i'll be the first in line to buy some if they ever decide to make them!

thanks guys - i've had my nose in it for so long i dont know what to think anymore >_< this helps
