40?... why on earth were they at 40psi?

The original BL handbook specifies tyre pressures as 24psi on the front and 22psi on the rear.

Most people nowadays seem to run 28psi on the front and 26psi on the back....

go careful when fitting the fog light into the cluster... i have done it on both my minis and it has failed as the bulbs have to be at least 8cm apart....so i now have a fog light to bolt on every time it has to go for an M.O.T with a wire in a grommit that pulls out to reconnect for an hour or so

Tyres have a come along way since the original 24-22 figures were given out - as said - a lot of people recommend 28 on the front and 26 on the back nowadays - and 'most' people just chuck them up to the 30 all round. Makes a considerable difference to the handling having the tyres correctly inflated...

I'd recommend when you get your new tyres - to have the whole lot set-up by a professional who knows what they're doing. Then you'll find out what a mini is supposed to feel like.

im sure it does
i was reading the tyres went i fitted them and it said max psi 56,
so i recon slightly overinflated tyres give sharped handleing so i put them at 40 lol
Big mistake in hinsight all at 30 now cause i realised my stupidity
to be honest i normally put all cars at 30 but on this occasion my specialness took over :D

Over-inflated tyres cause poor vehicle handling, reduced stability in braking, cornering and reduced grip. Think about it - Less of the tyre is in contact with the road because the centre buldges...

thank god it wasn't in the wet...

That dash is wicked :D I love it. Something really unique, It's a really good design. it looks great in the car too.
Don't take everyone's insults to heart. That welding doesn't looks at all pretty  but like you said You live you learn. large majority of the population don't have the foggiest to how a MIG works. Keep going and you'll be running beautiful welds in no time. If that weld has penetrated I bet it's reasonably strong, or at least strong enough for the job in hand. Don't know what people are on about when they say you have made it worse and a rust and death trap. The panel was falling off, it's now attached. In my book that's a good thing?
As long as you get some paint on there sharpish it should keep the rot out for a few years, or untill your welding like a beast and you can replace the whole front end.
Top tip though, if you think it looks poo (even if it's adequate for the job or only temporary) Don't post pictures on the internet in front of hundreds of mini buffs!

the max psi on the side of the tyre is the maximum for the design of the tyre at its load and speed rating.

What PSI you should run your tyres at his totally dependent on each vehicle. After all, those tyres are 12" which fit minis but may also fit other cars and applications from fibreglass 3wheelers to big family saloons.

As said above, under inflated and over inflated tyres can cause dramatic consquences.

lol cheers edward yours is still alot better than mine, especially with ur tubbed arches something which i am going to do in future (secret plan ask burny)

Had a very good day, went minisport to watch the bean on the rollers.
Arrived very early so I went upstairs to annoy tom, ordered me a pair of A359 Yokos for the front. Whilst i was waiting i noticed 2 pancake filters that were slightly dinted and were about to be reduced by 50%. So quicker than a P**o at a fair ground i bought one :D

best £6.49 ive spent yet

So walked downstair and saw The bean rawwin on the rollers i dumped the pancake filter in the mini and ran over to have a gander

After some tweeks his 1100 made 58 bhp at the flywheel and 38 bhp at the wheels not bad for the engine
had a good chat about the new gt stripes and the soon to be tighted ram pipes and may have steered him toward cuddle me elmo socks hahahah

Went to Alan's and fitted the pancake and reset the fueling, Then drove home and the speedo was waiting for me Mini R US are ace ordered tuesday night arrived tursday morning thats ace timing.

So got out side fitted the cable without jacking it up and then went for a spin YAYAYAYA my speedo works again happy days

Nice one, bit more working on him
Did they have to do much to the car at minisport, on the dyno? Oh and get the front end tracked up if you haven't already, there is more power at the wheels to be found if there straight.

you have a pretty clean bay too.

yeh i did the tracking tuesday night when i dropped the pressures down to 30 the wheels were 3 degree toe out
dropped it to 1 degree and might reduce it some more when i have time
With teds he just adjusted the carbs , sanded the needles, tweeked the ignition and made it a bit richer
made me laugh the way the twin carbs made the exhaust smoke at full throttle hahaha (over rich)
With mine put it on a sunbeam gas analyser and set it 2.6 - 3.0 % co2
Runs a lot better, soo nice havin the speedo working was an easy fit kevins took him ages to fit like 30 mins hahahah lol
