As well as spending more money at Merlin Motorsports (Samco hose is bloody expensive....and addictive - it'd be cheaper to have a coke habit!) we've got the first panel taken to it's final finish:

JFJj19D.jpg?1

And packaged up the circuit boards and relays in preparation for making the loom for the dash.

Oh and (no pictures) the rear loom is finished and in the car as is the front loom (for the flip-front) mostly, just got to finish the backing plates for the clubman lenses.

Dash loom is complete! A good few hours invested there...

And all lit up (volt gauge is annoyingly bright but it's only there to fill the gap, it'll be replaced by an oil pressure gauge soon enough):

You'd think the green button would be a push start....not at the moment, that's the fog light  Kinda ran out of white switches.

So when the dash was installed and properly hooked up to the rest of the loom it developed some annoying faults - false triggers (for example, turn the heater off and the lights would come on - a little annoying!). After some head scratching and a lot of Googling I found a forum thread with someone using pretty much the same circuit and having the same problem. A fresh pack of decoupling capacitors and some re-soldering saw things calm down and we're good to go again. Picture all wired in:

OnMIr7R.jpg?1

And just to prove it really does all work I took a picture with a potato:

mJHWsr2.jpg?1

More important news - most of the glass is in!

7G7GSBs.jpg?2

This involved an awful lot of swearing, two chips in the paint and a new rubber. You wouldn't believe we've done this a few times before. :mmkay:

Wing mirrors! Not much you'd thing but we've been a bit clever here. It would have been all to easy to just drill a new hole and put an extra rivnut in but I don't like altering the car to fit an accessory so instead I made an adaptor plate with some reasonable think aluminium. End result is 'Formula' style mirrors without altering the door :

While avoiding the football I thought it would be a good time to go tidy up the work bench. Not sure if it was a good idea or bad because I turned to look at the car and spotted a rather large puddle....

That'll be it then, time for a new pump.

We couldn't face a 4th Saturday at Somerfords so I concentrated on getting some of the bits ticked off the list that didn't need new parts. Main one today was the windscreen is in!

QPqAJ1f.jpg?1

Always an unknown when the scuttle has had work done on it. I can't say I'm 100% happy with the fitting (or with the 2nd hand glass) but it's in and I didn't chip the paint.

You know I said I wasn't happy with the fitting, well, I was kinda proven right on that one.....

Sfi42nO.jpg?1

I pulled the broken glass and compared it to the spare glass we have and there was about 5-6mm difference in width and ~2mm in height (the broken glass being the larger of the two). Fitting the 'smaller' glass took ~30mins and took a fraction of the effort. It has some wiper marks so I'm still not 100% happy but it'll get through an MOT!

Edit: New water pump is fitted too.

Update time.

Doors are built. That was a faff due to my dicky repair work >_< Shall we say that the some strong persuasion was required to get the driver-side door handle bolted in.

ddHVGuC.jpg?1

One of the big items that needed sorting out was the interior so we ordered some acoustic carpet for the rear seat (as we aren't fitting one) and went to Somerfords to grab a carpet set (as well as a few other bits and pieces).

So, rear done (looks baggy but that's just the ridges and divots in metalwork):

7RUX3gQ.jpg?1

Next was the usual carpeted bits:

6R606lW.jpg?1

And then, finally, for the first time in a very long time it's got some seats!

LL1SaCn.jpg?1

As well as all this, as per the post in 'Problems' I've also swapped out the crappy poly subframe mounts for some solid ones.
We did attempt to fit the doors today too but I snapped one of the studs on the hinge :shy:

It moves! For the first time in....errr...7 years? It moved under it's own steam. Only out to the front of the house to settle the suspension and get it level before fitting the arches but it moves none the less!

Unfortunately the electronics driving the switch gear aren't anywhere near protected enough from the noise of a running engine so things where turning on and off quite randomly. This means we definitely won't make it to Castle Combe this year as replacement switches aren't held anywhere in the UK :(

Replacement boot lid (2nd hand from our pals at Somerfords) fitted. Needs a small adjustment to get the shut-lines even but it's there! You've gotta love the Halfords rattle can finish

Finally got around to plumbing in the heated manifold and interior heater. More Samco!

And you may just notice something odd about the choke cable...it's from a GL1100 (Goldwing)

So we missed Action Day by not a lot, just some electrical gremlins that required some new switches that I could only find in Hong Kong  >_<

Anyway, progress is small and tricky now things like making brackets for the arches - not very interesting.

But! Some of the oldest 'custom' components still going to be used are the LED front lights (see page 1). I had to build the regulators which was a little fiddle as they were quite small circuit boards but they work quite well (balanced on the radiator):

Edit:

Thought I'd better add that the lights aren't using the crappy breadboards shown in those early pictures, they are all on printed boards now!
