well I think it's too long to claim from the insurance anyway, I wasn't going to post but then I carmed down a bit. Seen as apart from paint work and a bit of surface rust in the boot it's spot on it would be a real shame for it to be scrapped. I don't even know the full extent of the damage yet, it could be worse than I thought or hopefully not as bad as I thought. But thanks everyone for your supportive posts

well if we are all mates we may as well go round with no insurance!!!!!!

dont be silly you pay insurance so does he. he was at fault and i can guarantee that his policy wont go up 500 next year so give him his money back! no offence but if a kid had fallen out in front of you hed have gone up your backend anyway and so it is fully his fault no arguing no fuss his company will take liability. if your not gunna claim why bother paying insurance would you have taken a 500 pound bribe from a 50 year old bloke youd neva met????????????????

theres your answer claim

Phone them, phone them now!

The more you put it off the more likely you're going to end up with squatt and have to buy yourself a £500 shed if you want a car to drive.

Your so called friend has done you over with this £500 will fix that rubbish. Get him told and taught a lesson.

Dan, you never told me you had made a deal with him, i thought the insurers had writen it off.

Personally i would show this "mate" the options:

Going through insurance, but this would be bad for both of you, because his premium would go up, and they would deffinatly right that off.

Get quotes for the damage and what is needed to repair it, and show him. although i doubt many garages would quote you anything all that reasonable

Work out what it would cost for you to fix it your self, im sure some other forum members on here would help you with it aswell, i would if i wasnt so far away.

From looking at that, i would have said that to fix it, you atleast need:
Sub frame
Boot lid
rear panel
boot floor
rear valence
arches
tail lights
fog lights
boot hinges

not fogetting, pannel beaters set, welder, compresser and spray gun and paint.

I recon £2000-3000 would cover that lot, and you would be able to fix it your self for that, and its the option i would try to make him pick, you get your car fixed, you get to keep all the usefull tools, and he doesnt end up with a huge premium.

Chris

ps. im sure if your asked him sean would help you to fix it.

Not quite done it himself, he's certainly bent over and welcomed it though... "Why no, I'm fine, I don't need lube, go right ahead".

Dude, Phone the insurance, tell them you've had an accident and may need to claim, giev them the details they need then phone him/go see him, say it's not enough to fix the car, it's his fault. If he won't pay up then the friendship isn't worth what you think it is and go to the insurance company. Right now, YOU ARE letting the above happen >_<

Thing is this arrangement happend through my dad and his dad, the deal is done so I've got the £500 and a smashed up mini -.- and in my mind it wasn't my fault (he should of kept his distance), I think he thinks that it was my fault for braking but even if I did an emergancy stop!! His dad thinks it was my my fault too but he should of been able to brake in time with his modern car with abs and kept his distance ofcourse.

in the eyes of the law hes in the wrong. i hit someone becuase i slid in the rain for about 2 meters so in the dry loads of braking but as i hit the bmw it was my fault.

dont let him screw you over just because his insurance will go up. IT BLOODY WELL SHOULD GO UP!!!!!!!!!!!

hes in the wrong and isnt a mate if hes doing this to you!!!!

idiots on the roads who drive to close and dont watch the roads have it comming to them
