i couldn't agree more with MigliaMayhem, they speak the truth mate, as many people (including myself) have pointed out the potential disasterous consequenses of a collision in this shell once finished, its good that your learning on this shell, but as already pointed out by MigliaMayhem, any panels "welded" on, can be unpicked and re-used in a much better shell, use this shell as a learning curve, and source a much better one, you will have it finished alot quicker, will be alot safer, and will definitley be a very nice mini once done considering you have honedyour skills on this shell.

i wish you all the luck with the build again, and please dont take my comment as a critisism :) just helpfull advice

Ideally I'd like one, but I'm not sure if mine can be converted and how I would do this and I dont have a spare £2-300 for a new welder.

Really I'd want to convert my current one to gas or just to buy another cheap Clarke one.

one piece of advice my dad gave me that has paid of time and time agen... "buy the best you can afford" i currently use a 180mig welder was about £600 seems ALOT at the time but i have easily made this money back welding for people etc etc... and to be honest i wudnt have changed it for any other 1.

but as you say money is always an issue.. im not entirly sure u can actually convert your current one without changing the connectors to the gun etc etc.

Just seen some cheap Clarke gas welders on the internet, all under £300.
They are:
Clarke 130EN
Clarke 135TE
Clarke 160EN
Clarke 151TE

Obviously I cant afford one now, so when I get my apprenticeship (September) I will look into buying one.

Not really motivated, might get this thread deleted. Dads now decided that the minis gonna be his and hes gonna take it back to standard so I cant really be bothered to work on it for nothing. Taking too long aswell, another year Dad reckons :/. Ah well.

I have just read the entire post from start to finish and have to agree with MigliaMayhem and shifty. I don't want to offend or insult you but the shell is rank rotten and the workmanship is sub standard [seriously no offence intended] This car could be lethal if involved in an accident due to the poor welding. I would also be surprised if the car actually rolled in a straight line if it ever does see the road again. I seriously hope that the car never gets resold to some young unsuspecting buyer. In all honesty the best place for this mini is the crusher. There were over 5 million minis made so they aren't exactly a rare car and if it was me in your position I would maybe try and take out a bank loan and buy a decent mini thats taxed and tested. The interest paid on the loan itself would still be much cheaper than what you are currently paying for a wasted project and buying a mini is an investment so providing you look after the car it will give you the same return or possibly higher when you resell it.

Sorry if this isn't what you would like to hear but some of us in here do actually care about other peoples safety and well-being!

and on the welder front, cant you just borrow one from anyone you know who has one?? would be cheaper than buying one XD
