Area I attacked today, another bit that doesn't require welding.. and only needs some cleaning.

Posted Image
Taken back to bare metal.

Posted Image
I did Ku-rust the whole panel, but accidentally deleted the photo.

Red oxide.

Posted Image
Dust of etch primer.

Posted Image
Coated in etch primer.

& I'm giving the etch primer time to cure over night before applying the high build.

Whilst waiting inbetween layers, I toyed about with the dashboard a bit more.

Haha cheers :D

Well I couldn't wait until tomorrow & the etch had had a good 2-3 hours to harden, so I applied a heavy coat of High Build.

Headed over to Ean Muller in Loughborough this morning for a few bits.

Posted Image
Draper clamps, gauntlets, wire brushes & a spot weld drill bit.

Posted Image
Heli-coil kit which we've rented out.

Posted Image
& to practice with we are using Co2, doesn't give a clean weld but just for practicing this will do nicely. He gave us this for free as someone had dumped it on him and he was only going to take it to the tip anyway!

How are you going about removing the swarf from the box when you've helicoiled it, just out of curiosity?

Also Luke, you don't need to etch prime red oxide, you only etch prime on bare metal and it goes off pretty quickly ;).

Swill & rinse it out with white spirit & leave it to dry.

I'm red oxiding the areas that are most subject to weather, lowerside of the bulkhead, whole underside & the arches. Just for added protection and peace of mind :)

Very impressed with the job they've done, highly recommended! and all for £85! feel like I've made a massive leap forward with this milestone.

There was a bit they couldn't do which was the timing chain cover, as there was a rubber seal that they couldn't pull out.. but it's been sandblasted down, I'll etch it and spray it up myself.

Awesome stuff Luke, love the smooth finish it gives you when there done and the polish look (not that say like that for long once its on the road)

Does feel like youve accomplished a lot even though it was just handing over some cash haha.

Going down to the sprayshop tomorrow to take some pics of my shell, so look out for an update ;)

Yeah I understand that, but you're doing it in the wrong order.

Bare metal.
Etch Primer.
Red Oxide.
Top Coat.

Etch primer should only be used on bare metal, there is no need on top of red oxide.

Those subframes look spanky!

They are so clean! I can handle them without getting rust & grime all over my hands, rebuilding them will be so enjoyable >_<

He's called John Whiteman Engineering, just give it a google search :)

Oh I see! I misunderstood, I was applying red oxide straight to bare metal.. as you've seen, won't be a problem will it? I'll just make sure I apply them all in the correct order next time.
