I've spent the last couple of Saturday afternoons cleaning and spraying all the front suspension parts, nearly all done now:

40-odd years worth of cack & grease, lovely

All cleaned up
Attached File  121.jpg   37.88K   8 downloads
Attached File  123.jpg   27.47K   6 downloads

The other side
Attached File  124.jpg   20.52K   6 downloads

and stripped down
Attached File  125.jpg   38.43K   6 downloads

And all cleaned up, unfortunatly the back plate was both bent and twisted, so ordered a new one
Attached File  126.jpg   36.63K   6 downloads

The top ones have been cleaned, bottom ones are still dirty, although they dont actually look too bad; the pipe is being replaced for new, as are all the other brake pipes on the car
Attached File  132.jpg   33.39K   7 downloads

Bottom one is all cleaned up, top one is about to be cleaned
Attached File  133.jpg   33.74K   7 downloads

Few more bits getting painted:
Attached File  129.jpg   36.2K   7 downloads
Attached File  134.jpg   29.01K   7 downloads
Attached File  136.jpg   38.33K   7 downloads

New front subframe, had to be cleaned up before painting as it had been sat in Mini Spares warehouse for God only knows how many years!
Attached File  139.jpg   36.17K   16 downloads
Attached File  140.jpg   40.83K   13 downloads

I ordered a load of new bits from Somerford Mini the other week, including pretty much every single nut, bolt and washer to replace all the old ones on the front suspension. I was not too impressed when I opened up the parcel to find that, rather than labeling them all or putting them all into seperate bags, they had put them all in together :P Took me ruddy ages to sort this lot out & figure out what went where

This is brilliant, the standard of the bodywork is amazing. and the cleaning up of parts is looking good and equally important. looks like this is going to be a very nice mini when finished, keep it up!

Since I last posted up some pics, Pete has been very busy sorting out the front end, 'tis looking like a Mini again now!

The first scuttle to get repaired:
Attached File  141.jpg   38.91K   22 downloads
Attached File  142.jpg   33.55K   21 downloads

Good as new:

Passenger inner wing getting its 'fresh air' duct blanked (mk1's dont have them)
Attached File  144.jpg   49.47K   14 downloads
Attached File  147.jpg   40.43K   10 downloads

Rad cowling going on:
Attached File  148.jpg   47.34K   7 downloads

Just a few welds.....
Attached File  150.jpg   29.85K   20 downloads

All done and good as new:
Attached File  151.jpg   43.46K   14 downloads
Attached File  152.jpg   18.27K   12 downloads

Second scuttle getting repaired:
Attached File  154.jpg   29.87K   14 downloads
Attached File  155.jpg   33.71K   16 downloads

Drivers inner wing getting the bonnet stay & wiring loom clips added:
Attached File  156.jpg   21.09K   11 downloads
Attached File  157.jpg   22.76K   12 downloads

The front panel before, during and after the mk1 finishers being fitted, much better with them fitted for the proper mk1 look:
Attached File  158.jpg   23.97K   8 downloads
Attached File  159.jpg   46.68K   27 downloads
Attached File  160.jpg   42.98K   13 downloads
Attached File  161.jpg   46.6K   10 downloads

Front wings getting ready to go on:
Attached File  162.jpg   30.52K   15 downloads
Attached File  164.jpg   42.15K   9 downloads

Front panel on:
Attached File  163.jpg   49.15K   9 downloads
Attached File  166.jpg   20.61K   13 downloads
Attached File  167.jpg   25.27K   10 downloads

And at long last, after over 12 years with no front end on him, he finally looks like a Mini again:
Attached File  165.jpg   42.42K   13 downloads
I was so pleased when I saw this picture, its a big milestone to me for it to have a front end back on it again after so long without :w00t:

Hi Andy, no news from Pete as yet, last I saw he was working on my front doors (replacing the runners & re-skinning them) I also know he was gettin pulled off of mine to do some work on a 'bus thats been sat waiting for him to work his magic- not a bad thing as I'm rather busy myself over the next month.

I saw the pics of your front end, looks really good mate, I'm away next week but when I get back I'm gonna take my front number plate carrier down to Pete to do the same with mine as you did with yours- & fair play with what you've done to your doors, bet that was a bit stressfull! I wouldn't fancy taking a angle grinder to a brand new door, given how much they cost! keep up the good work, its looking realy good. ;)

Hi all, I've been away so not much been happening, below are the most recent pics I've had from Pete, showing the work he has been doing on my doors:

The bottom lip
Attached File  170.jpg   30.08K   6 downloads

The inside of the bottom of the door (door with its skin off)
Attached File  171.jpg   30.55K   7 downloads

The rust cut out
Attached File  172.jpg   31.75K   9 downloads

And replaced with new metal
Attached File  173.jpg   30.77K   9 downloads

The inside of the other door's bottom lip
Attached File  174.jpg   31.58K   5 downloads

And being replaced
Attached File  175.jpg   41.39K   6 downloads
Attached File  176.jpg   18.85K   7 downloads
Attached File  177.jpg   24.12K   6 downloads

Sprayed up- good as new
Attached File  178.jpg   38.29K   6 downloads

One very rusty top edge (this is the lip that the runner for the windows sit onto)
Attached File  179.jpg   49.1K   9 downloads

The rust cut away
Attached File  180.jpg   51.4K   10 downloads

New piece fabricated from scratch by Pete and welded in- its detail like this that make me so glad pete's doing the work for me
Attached File  181.jpg   35.65K   9 downloads

I've still got plenty more work to do on the suspension, have started cleaning up the rear subframe parts, I already have a new rear subframe; pretty much everything else apart from the 'hydro displacers and the radius arms are gonna have to be replaced unfortunatley, will post up pics soon.
