Hey, really nice mini there fella! quick question, how did you refurb the wood dash?
Thanks! Some of the laquer had got water underneath it so just chipped off, the rest I sanded down with a DA, and I used halfrauds filler primer rattle cans. Might have been an idea to use some sort of wood sealer, but I didn't, it seems to be ok though
Cheers bud!
Yeah mine is an SPi so I guess it would be much in the same for an easier conversion.
Yeah KAD stuff seems more expensive to me but I guess its just because it's bespoke I suppose. Ok cool I shall be eagerly awaiting your rolling road session, and I'm going to start hunting for a BMW head.
Ahh should be pretty easy for you then

But I picked up these beautiful wheels today(thought I might show them off, lol), might give them a polish tomorrow, but they don't really need it!! I'll be changing the rubber for some yoko's.

chap I know has done a 1380 8v mpi, really nice engine, smooth, quite, pokey, made 110-112 hp at 7100 on the rollers that SC use. I couldnt get over the difference that not having the rockers ect makes to the sound level, soo much quieter.... till you boot it and get that nice bark.
interestingly he runs filter socks, and we did a run with and without them & bonnet up and bonnet down, only made a couple of hp difference at the most,
Good chaps John and Simon, Ive had dealings with them and they are always helpful.

has this been on the rollers? I'd be interested to know what it makes with the SC head,

As of yet, no it hasn't. However that is one of the first things I'll be doing.
It is pretty smooth, and reasonably quite. But as soon as you push the noise pedal, it's immense! A combination of the throttle body's, exhaust and SC box and drops...
I was going to use filter socks over the SC trumpets, but then decided against it after watching a video of someone using them on the rollers, I'm going to try and get a panel filter to fit so I can use the trumpets again. Either that or I'll buy SC's shaftless throttle bodys as they mount closer to the head and give more room for different filters etc. ha.
John and Simon are really helpful.

I noticed you had KnN filters on. Any problems with that set up?
I was looking at that set up or RamAir bike filters that clamp up to the throttle body.
by the way you have done a great job.

Thanks for the comments, the only problem is the bonnet catch has caught the edge of one of the filters. If you are using a clubman then they would be fine.
But as already suggested one of those ITG filters would be better as you could use the trumpets, either that or a plenum and a cone filter, which is what I'm tempted to try, something like this - http://www.ebay.co.u...=item35c1290db7
Might even attempt making my own from fibreglass.

Yeah Rich a clubby, (as seen in my build link below) so room shoudn't be a problem. Just with the ITG filter set up I can't see how the throttle cable routes. Obviously it does because it's on the one above. Have you had any problems with crankcase breathing? And is yours just breathing into to atmosphere or to vacuum? One last thing where did you locate a temp gauge sender?
Thanks
I remember reading your build thread, lovely mini!
I'm unsure on the routing of the throttle cable... so can't really comment on it.
Mine does breath a little bit, it's just vented to atmosphere through a small K&N type filter, on the left hand side of the head(red circle). I was tempted to put it to vacuum, but I read that this can cause problems with emissions, and as I have enough problems with emissions anyway(due to age) I didn't want to compound the issue.
With the coolant sensor, I used the Specialist Components head outlet and the sensor screws into that, using the BMW sensor.
