Hmm, think I'm rebuilding a subframe! lol. Bought it off ebay as a sound, slightly rusty frame, turns out I needed to repair it and weld it up in three places >_<

Going to take it somewhere in town to get it powder coated this week.

Ok, I know I said I wouldn't post any pics until it was MOT'ed but I am only waiting for the filters and wheel nuts now :D The subframe doesn't need doing to get it MOT'ed, it needs doing because the back end needs lowering :P lol. So here are a couple of pics!

Thankyou, I wasn't completely sure when I bought them, but I think they are possibly the best bit and just finish it off :)

Yeh, mine passed the MOT a few weeks ago. Its pretty quick, I have set the rev limiter to 5K RPM and I cant wait to remove it. Ive done about 50 miles so far, only a few thousand more to go. Apparently all the fun starts to happern after 5K.

I have uploaded a video on youtube CHECK IT OUT! . Hope to see you at some shows next year!

That sounds immense on throttle! lol I really need to sort out a rev counter as the one on my dash doesn't work >_<

I will be going to as many shows as I can make next year, I only went to one this year, but I had no mini :(

I drove it today! For about 10 miles just to test it, and all I can say is, oh my god!! The sound is awesome! And I only ran part throttle because I need to run it in, but it still sounded great! I had a smile on my face the whole time :D

I have noticed a few problems :( firstly there is a pretty big oil leak which I need to locate, I think it's coming from the front plate >_< which means a fairly hefty strip down of that side of the engine.

It gets hot under the bonnet! I've got to make a shield for down the back of the engine between the exhaust and block, so I can cover off some oil return pipes. I'm going to rig up a circuit and electric pump to circulate the coolant for at least ten minutes once the engine has been switched off.

The front suspension needs to be a little softer, the front end is way too stiff and jumping about a little :P , the shocks just need setting, surprisingly the tracking is ok :P considering it has been rebuilt.

That's it for now, but I'm sure I'll find more on the next test :P once these are sorted. I doubt I'll be MOTing it next week :( but I only needed to drive a mini for five minutes to make me happy!! Lol :D

The first I drive mine it put a big smile on my face too. It was soooo worth all the blood, sweat and tears!

Every time I take her for a spin now, I still cant help but smile at the sheer power and noise the beast creates. Its like no other mini i have ever driven, the engine is so responsive.

Gone are the days of carb spluttering and points to set up. :)

Hi,

Just read this build from page one. I love the work you have done, a testiment to your skills and enthusiasm for keeping your Mini on the road.

Hope it gives you as much fun as ours does.

Cheers

Haha, I can't remember the last time I set points up on a mini anyway! lol. The noise from the throttle bodies is amazing on part throttle, I can not get wait til I give it full beans! :D I think this might be the first mini I don't thrash everywhere just to go fast :P

Thanks!! and it's not finished yet >_< Yep, they are Mini Special wheels, I really like them :D

A little Update ;
After a "test drive" last weekend, I found a couple of oil leaks on the front of the engine, so I'm pulling the front plates, cam belt etc off to reseal it. I don't mind oil leaks and I know it's a mini  but I rather it wasn't leaking onto the cambelt!! >_<

OK, just thought I might as well up date this :-) She is back in the garage with no engine or rear subframe at the moment. I'm in the process of tidying up and painting the boot floor and building up the rear subframe with all the goodie's I bought last year.

The engine is out as I'm changing the gearbox for a straight cut one out of my tax exempt 1000 in my avatar, and while I'm doing that I'm striping it down to get the sump fixings tapped to 3/8UNF and I'm going to reseal everything.

And I'm changing the 7.5" 's' brakes for some 7.9 4 pot KAD's I just happen to have sitting around :P

I'll get some photo's up when I have some :D
