When i took my fairly standard 998 out for a thrashing, i just ended up with loads of oil leaks and a general mess :shifty:. New engine does a ton at 6krpm, still pulls past 7.5k

998's Rule ;)

Haha., classic. I didn't end up with anything really wrong. I just dumped the rad, filled it back up, and i was sorted.

Hopefully not shooting myself in the foot here... But my Engine's solid !!!

Small bores are pretty bomb proof to be honest. I drive mine HARD, but nothing serious has ever happened :shifty:

My 90bhp 1293 hit just under 120 on the rolling road, although no wind resistance, there is twice the rolling resistance on the tyres as there is 2 contact patches on each tyre. That is an accurate figure, as its obviously a calibrated piece of kit, so I doubt your 998 got anywhere near 118. Probably closer to 90 to be honest.

Going from a mini speedo is next to useless

Mine 998 has hit a ton once and was on the motorway straight road, i can easily do 90 and its pretty much standard, only mods are maniflow exhaust and aaa needle with red spring with magic pipe.
Forgot to mention it's got 10 inch wheels, so i think that helps.

I went out for a thrash with my mates earlier this year, at one point, goin downhill, i managed about 86mph in my standard 998. Then the clutch cylinder went after i was a bit forceful with the clutch.

Getting a stage 1 kit soon, but i'm out for acceleration improvements :shifty:

Exhaust downpipe bud, saves haveing an lcb to convert to a larger bore exhaust and to stick with standard manifold.

I think having smaller wheels helps it acelerate faster but slows down top end speed, and having bigger wheels helps it go faster top end and in theory slower aceleration but then again they'd probably be wider so better grip - less wheel spin

You can get a scary lick of speed out of a 998 90+ isn't unreasonable a bit of an incline or a following wind are just as common as a flat road on a calm day. Tuned engines will run to higher revs so, again in favourable conditions, a comfortable 100+ is easily possible.

Wheels 'n gear ratios don't directly correlate to top speed. With small wheels you might run out of revs even though you had the power to go faster, with big wheels you'd run out of power to overcome the wind resistance, even though there's more power to be had if only you could get the revs higher.

well my old 850 engine got to 75mph. Take that 3mph over its offical top speed, i done it for 30 miles then it blew the headgasket - DOH :shifty:

in hindsight it was a pretty stupid thing to do, as it was the frst time i drove it, on the day of purchase !!
