Only got a little bit done today but progress non the less.I got the a pillar gusset welded in,it was pretty awkward down the inside edge as the seam for the windscreen is right where you want the torch to be and its awkward to get a good view of what your doing. It turned out ok in the end and now both side look the same which is a plus as it had always just annoyed me before.Still need to dress the welds back but will have to wait till next time.

Looks great, makes me happy to see such a high level of craftsmanship being put into this car. I've been following this thing on TM, didn't realize it was on here.
Thank you.Its been on here since I bought it but its been so long between updates that the thread has always been way down the pages

When I repaired the door bottoms earlier in the thread I also did some localised repairs on the area where the hinges mount to as that was manky as well and had cracked in places.I was never really happy with it to be honest though as the finished job wasnt very neat and there was rust trapped between the outer skin of the frame and the reinforcing frame the hinges mount to.I was thinking about buying a set of doors with better frames but decided that I way as well see if I can sort these out first.
First job was to get the outer skin off which was a bit tricky without mangling the reinforcing plate behind it.There was quite a bit of rust in there so glad I took it off, here it is cleaned up as best it could be.I gave the area a good going over with rust converter stuff and then a good coating of weld through zinc primer.

Made up a repair section to fit along the back edge of the door with some holes for plug welds to replace the spots that were originally there. Also gave the back of that a good coat of the zinc primer.

Tacked up,plug welded and then seam welded in.Also had to weld a couple of small areas elsewhere on the door where the metal was thin that I hadnt noticed last time

Trimmed it back ready for the lip to go back on.

Thats as far as I got,I was going to make the lip and weld it on tonight but have arranged to go and pick up a new welder tomorrow so will leave it until then to give the new machine a test run.

Here it is.It welds lots smoother and nicer than the old one, really chuffed with it.

As I was too impatient to wait for some 0.6 wire to arrive I got on with welding the door lip back on with some 0.8,this went well apart from a bit more metal to dress off at the end.

Spent a while in the garage this afternoon shaping the lip up and dressing the welds back, also removed the drivers door hinge skin area in the same fashion as this one but no pics.

Going to get some door skins on order and get the other door sorted this week as I have been kindly loaned a door skinning tool and would like to get the doors finished and put out of the way.
