the whine comes from the toothed drive belt, try tightening it up,
as said you may only be able to hear it from the outside...

Are you sure? They are v belt driven, not toothed belt like cambelts. I've always thought it was the vanes inside making the noise.

my dad had a super charger on his 350ci v8 chevy engine and that was a toothed belt with
toothed pullys, If this one is a v belt that's probably why is doesn't whine!! they are probably
V belted so they DON'T whine..

Surely it's nothing to do with the toothed belt drive. If it was every car with belt driven camshafts would whine, and they don't.

Also, just to poo poo the ideas further, SCs run directly off the crankshaft ala Bently Blower still whine.

Maybe knackerd ones don't whine, because of worn seals or something, I'm just speculating.

Please reas the above again. Howcan the toothed belt be responsible for the whine, it makes no sense.

The belt my dad had was a 3'' wide belt , the super charger was a dummy (no internal vanes)
so it must have been the toothed gears and belt, I'll try and find a vid of a supercharged v8..

Seems the whining is coming from alot of very innacurate information, if a toothed belt makes the whine then every cambelted car on the road would be whining.............. come on get real!

Its not from the belt,vw g60s and g40s dont run a toothed belt as standard and the whine from those is pretty loud even in standard tune.

Cam belts have a very distinct whine, but since 99% of engines with cam belts have covers over them, it gets drowned out with the rest of the noise from the engine.

Having said that, there is no toothed belt on the supercharger drive, so the whine wont be coming from there.

You can hear the timing belt whine a little here while blipping the throttle, as I have a little fun on a Manchester Minis Mini Auto test night, lol, needless to say I was cra.p :D

I had Ford Orion which had a toothed cambelt and that whined ,although the exhaust noise did drown
it some what.
And the supercharger whine WAS first hand on a toothed gear drive pully, but not on an Eaton,
as I said an Mini supercharger may have a grooved belt so it doesn't whine...
That's all I have to say.. :D

The Eaton supercharger uses spur gears and that is why it makes a noise. The lubricant is being squeezed out from between the teeth of the gears at supersonic speeds, and it is that which makes the noise L M F A O :D NOT!! but it is the spur gears adding to the noise in the same way as transfer gears do

Yes that sounds like a belt whining, similar to my subaru sounds at tickover, but more obvious. What it dosen't sound like is a supercharger making boost.

This thread has it all.

Fluids breaking the sound barrier, wining toothed belts?

Wil_h and Sprocket seem to be the only ones with a clue.

As for Mra minis? Smack bang at the bottom of the MRA`s web page it says

MRA Minis is a subsidiary of MRA Engineering Ltd

Engineer? Really?

I seem too have got two threads mixed up, I was reading what he said about oil and super sonic speeds.

All i`m saying is take everything you read with a pinch of salt.

Hold on i'm gunna have to let it out. :D
