i take it you have read the post through? IN A FEW YEARS TIME!, and another thing how do you think all these garages started up anyway? jamie from charsima started out of his garage now hes featured in every magizine and he was the garage on PIMP MY RIDE! West Coast Customs saem story. what will people see in my conversions? i dont know something a little different to the noraml Stuff you can buy off the shelves?

So what will you be doing in the next few years to get the required experience under your belt?

What's your plan, whats the difference in your conversions, what skills are you bringing to the table?

The telly people make stuff like that look very easy, trust me it isn't.

Well i dont know im going to the ford automotive enginnering college in dagenham? working on my own car as a demo for this HOBBY!
its not a conversion its a modifictaion place! all it is something different to what people normally do with minis! i knwo the TV people make it look easy! but they still started somewhere!.

can i ask do you take pride in doing this? you have to think everyone started somewhere and learnt on the way up

Is it a hobby or a buisness?

Get the experience first, then start thinking about making a buisness out of it.

What will you be doing at the Ford college?

Do they have a mini specific department?

Believe it or not mine aren't negative, they are a realistic assesment of the situation as it stands at the moment.

Do you know of any more details (i.e. the branch/location)? I'm only about 5-10 mins from Dagenham (dad used to work for Fords as a foreman too)

Why?

Because I've asked you questions that you've been unable to answer????

I would not ignor Shifty if I were you....he knows what he is talking about. A hobby performed on your own car is one thing, but if you start working on other peoples car that open a whole new can of worms. What most are trying to say is get the relevant skills first, make a name for yourself and then think about modifying customers cars.

Shifty is known as a brilliant restorer.....how do you think he got that reputation? He has years of experience using the relevant skills he has learnt. If I were you, I'd do the same.....learn, practice and then start a small business.

i think you'll find that is a very unwise descion, our shifty has forgotten more then most know. his advice is just that, advice, of course you dont have to listen too it, but its all true. he isnt being negative, just realistic. working on other peoples cars is a whole kettle of fish, show your elders some respect. :D

i might sub contract work out depnds on what needs doing really. i mean ill be running it from home out of my garage. i havent really thought it through properly yet its going to be a few years before i manage to get it up and running. at the moment im just getting some feedback

Your quote "I really haven't thought this through properly" is the real situation. If you are looking for honest feedback, you have it. Don't whine when it is not what you want to hear. Rather than ignoring the likes of Shifty, he and others like him are the very people you should be asking for advice. They have already done something similar to what you propose and have been very successful.

Put your toys back in your pram.

Just because I haven't gushed about what a brilliant idea this is and what a brilliant buisness plan you have.

I've asked how you plan on going about this, what you are going to do to get the required skills, if you appreciate just how much time this stuff takes.

If being asked awkward and difficult questions is a problem for you then just wait till you start on your new venture(in a "few" years time)

im mopen to suggestion thats why i asked but when the whole forum start picking holes in an idea for no reason it becomes ridiculous. and dont lecture me on what i should or shouldnt do. i can see why a lot of minis dont get experimented on because at the first hurdle they get ridiculed for the idea
