Cool i thought it was mostly ladies, based on the pictures and the fact that Emma is not a particularly manly name ;D I must say you appear to be a lady with a rather short attention span, based on the constant random welding etc :P

like welding my name on the brake disc LOL that was funny!!! -

Yep that is exactly what i was reffering to, mind you i cant talk i painted my hand black today while doing a bit of rust treatment :o
Edit: a bit more on topic the engine looks lovely, mines all rusty and bleugh ;)

CJ did well, start him early, will do his own one in a few years time. amazin speed still. The red Oxidate, is that ok for overspraying? Or does it need a few coats from something else.
Do you guys use a Mig/gas welder. if so do you use CO2 or mixed CO2/Aragon. by the way you are making me doing overtime on my mini!! Lovin it.Still you got 4 weeks to go I believe, are you in the right time-scedule?

4 weeks left so its going well - i'm hoping to get everything ready of the shell for the front end to go on by the end of the week, including both subframes refitted, new fuel and brake lines and all the suspension built back up again.... and the doors re-skinned......... hopefully

i'm not too sure what gas it is, i'll ask my dad....

Woodpecker brought CJ a mini for his 13 birthday back in september - which arrived on there driveway magically while they were away at a mini show, so CJ came back to a mini covered in decorations for a surprise present!!!! - its a lot worse than this one so its a good job if he can weld!!! LOL

the Red oxide seams fine to paint over - the stonechip goes over it fine, than i used it on the sky and it was fine when we came to paint it, the only reaction we had was from the red oxide over some random Acid anti-rust paint.... so it was all stripped off and repainted in red and it was fine....

thanks for that, it all looks good, so red oxide is fine on metal but not coting anti-rust paint, I will bare that in mind.Good luck this weekend!

Thanks for the comments guys - i'm loving this project - do need more sleep tho..... LOL

so todays update :)

day 26 was just me doing a bit of stonechipping under where the plank was supporting the mini and painting the back of the front subframe - then the club meet

day 27 started in the scrap yard

Posted Image

pooor mini :shifty:

it was really really really soild!!!! its such a shame >_<

but we still got a shed load of spares off it - mostly to go in my spares pile for the sky :o

so then back to the garage

waxoiled under the boot floor :o

then i made the front to rear brake line

and woo fitted it and the fuel line

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

i did make the brake line FAR too long but hey - its better than being too short!!!

then i made the new brake lines for the front subframe

Posted Image

i'm really happy with them they looke lovery!!! i also fitted the new flexis, then pecks put in the new subframe mounts and i fitted the bottom arms + tiebars with new bushes

then we bolted it back into place
Posted Image

Posted Image

happy days :o

Why not have that mini in the scrapyard? Even if it wasn't another project for you you could sell it so someone would be restoring it and prob make some out of it as well. Also builds looking fantastic as always.

there was a car sat on the roof!!! and most of the panels are bent :shifty: - its probably in under the scrappage scheme too so won't be able to put back on the road >_<

someone has been there before us and trashed the steering column/stalks/and wiring loom :)

Oh I see, I just thought it was up above it as it looked like that from the pictures, well to me.

even on the scrapyard the mini is holding strong, looks like an '87, even the engine is worth looking at. The Criminals!!

I've been watching this quietly from the wings, all I can say is I'm very impressed with you dedication and determination to complete this project in seven weeks. It's looking good so far and the deadline is looking very possible, good luck with the rest of the build and keep up the good work

i think it was a 89 ish one, because it had a servo and the engine number is 99he... which is the same as the sky's, but it is a auto!!!, it also has got the enclosed bootlid rather than the open frame type again the same as the skys..... it just a shame its got a massive dent in

day 28

pecks cleaned up and repainted the servo, clutch cyclinder, head steady and the mounting braket

Posted Image

then spent the rest of the day cleaning up the 'new' wing

Posted Image

we got it about 3 years agoas part of a lot from ebay and they have had it for a few years with out using it!!, its a genuine wing, but was covered in surface rust!! - so thats pecks job for the next few days!!!

and i have been repairing the doors - i did the passenger one first as i thought it was the worse because the skin was more rottom on the bottom

so these are the repairs

Posted Image

easy!!, the passenger door is now all ready for the new skin

and the drivers

Posted Image

skin off

Posted Image

old skin

Posted Image

the remains of the door

Posted Image

that would be the whole bottom lip that needs replacing then!!! - this is what happens when minis aren't waxoiled!!!!! -waxoil = no rust!!!!!

so repaired and painted

Posted Image

i just need to take one of the hinges off on this side to grind back a random weld that was holding the skin on.....

i also rewelded the damage from the spotweld drill on the top of the inner wings

Posted Image

and ground back these to work out where i need to replace!!

Posted Image

and does anyone know where i can get some of this

Posted Image

i got this bit from a mini show and i want some more to use as a bulkhead liner.........

the plan for today is repair the shock mounts, grind that weld back on the door, refit the engine....... and then either start building up the front suspension or make new brakelines for the rear suspension and refit the rear subby......
