I think you've installed your backplates on the wrong sides.

The brake cylinder should be at the bottom.

Noted dude....
i did actually say in the last post they were on back to front or in this case left to right and right to left :D

Ah sorry, my bad! I was only skim reading, I didn't want to leave it unsaid and no one else point it out :D.

I wish I had the patience to colour co-ordinate everything like you have done, it's going to look really trick when it's done.

Hello Update time again peeps :D

had somee goodies arrive in the post the other day ....

Posted Image

new swivel kits.

Posted Image

New bearing kits.

so here are my newly redone Hubs
Posted Image

Posted Image

putting in new bearings

Posted Image

new hubs fully assembeld with colour coded steering arms and black nuts and washers....... im not that pedantic ......honest

once i had got this all done on the day i realised it was a lovly summers day ! so i stripped my engine down, well started to,

Cylinder head came off as did the rocker, valves, DOUBLE VALVE SPRINGS, push rods, and cam followers look bit burnt !

Posted Image

And then i came to this *illegitimate person*! :xxx:

Posted Image

one stubborn fly wheel ! :xxx:

Not a strange thing for mini's, tired every thing from a sledge hammer :D ,to a club hammer :) , thinking i could hit it out from the starter motor hole as it turns out it is very clever to do. :geek:

so after getting the hump and making a phone call i then started to strip everything else such as ....

fuel pump,
Dynamo,
water pump,
distributer,

this weekend i hope to get the flywheel off then the engine completely stripped down so i can work on it all

Looking good! Have you tried the flywheel puller you can get from halfords? They seem to work well. And isn't something a reverse thread? Never done it myself, but i'm sure I know someone who tried then found out something was backwards!

Got a free night and the puller i had orgianlly was too big. so i took your advice dan and amanged to get one from halfords and it worked a treat! i dont know what people complain about getting a fly wheel off, althoug it did go bang and fly off.......... but thats not the point :)

So i got the flywheel off pretty easily just put a scaffolding pole through the puller and had a big bar to turn !

Posted Image

This is how far it flew with a big heavy pole on it, would even like to know how far it could have gone. :)

so once this was done the structured destruction of the engine was continued :gimme:

so anyway once i was half way round my cousin comes over and i find ou that the flywheel that i have removed is the same as the one he has just brought ...... equals i have a lightened flywheel shamone!

Posted Image

Shiney

i had an old leak :turtle:

Posted Image

Posted Image

hmmm i wonder what is under here........

Posted Image

oooo thats exciting a 276 kent cam ! :w00t:

Posted Image

what the head looked like :ermm:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Finally got the block and gear box seperate : :1eye:

Posted Image

I then removed all of the pistons and the crank

Posted Image

nice looking Gooey sump and gearbox

Posted Image

The block is now on my work bench so that i can start to get to work with cleaning it all up ready for either honing or going up a bore size..... but what to do ! Help me
once this was all done i got to work on the head itself

from above you could see what condistion it was in so i gave it a quick clean up and lick of paint and this was the result of a evenings work.

and artist picture of my work bench lol

and finally the colour paitn i will be using for the proper head.

Now after doing a little bit of research and stumbling over one of my cousins magasines i found a bloody impressive article about speedwell, so as you all know i am going for this theme this will be my bible, speedwell engines came out of there with a yellow cylinder head and a black block and standard silver sump/Gear box so this is how my under bonet will look.

otherwise i have checked the pistons and there is no were on them, or on the cam, what i am unsure of is either honing the block and keeping it as a +40 or wether i go the whole hog and +60, the block has been quote for valve pockets as i am intending to stick a 1275 head on the 998 block,

so what im a trying to say is will it be worth going to a +60 or trying to keep to +40

what performance roughly would i get from a +40 & a +60 ?

Chher guys more updates soon hopefully bodywork can start :genius:

Alright Rob, nice pick up kid. Quick question as I see you've recently built your rear subframe up, I bought a pair of recon'd radius arms, now they came with the nut large silver washer, spring washer and a ruber seal either end, now one seal slips on and holds in place nicely over the lip however the other one will not stay on the lip for beans, did you have this problem at all? Also when fitting the radius arms to the subframe what order do the washers etc go, at the moment I have the two rubber seals on the inside of the radius arm, then the silver washers and spring washer then nut on the outside. Is this correct? Really need and appreciate the help Cheers matey.

Pickupapickup you are right it is that way round and yes if you fold that rubber seal up the arm whilst you get it in place then you can slide it on down then the arm is all done up it was a fiddly job to do ;D your best bet is to get an sc parts cataloge exploded diagrams of everythign and how hey go back together :D

Engine update i have got a quote to get the engine bored +060, honed, valve pockets done and resurfaced,

trying to source an unleaded 1275 12g940 or even a 1275head from the mg metro as it has bigger valves :w00t:

once this is done i just need to look for a good set of pistons dunno what is best flat tops or dished.

i currently have a lightned fly wheel but would like the lightest i can get which i beleive is 4.028kg
