The new Mini is just as much a Mini as the classic one.
The idea for a new Mini was around in Rover long before BMW took over.
It was even originally meant to have the K-Series engine.
Some people had similar comments when the MPI minis came out - there was even talk at shows of banning them as the weren't "proper" minis as they had ECUs and fuel injection.
However, it was nice to see the new Minis so welcome this year at Bingley - good turn out and the concours comp was nearly as good as the classic mini 1 next door!

i can totally understand why bmw bought the brand, its earned them a whole pile of money
the head of BMW in 1994 at the time of the rover take over, was Bernd Pischetsrieder he was/is a great nephew of Issigonis,

I've just started to read this thread. I don't condone with people slashing Bini owners tyres. It gives us a bad reputation and doesn't help with the ridiculous insurance prices overall.
I never liked the Bini myself. But as the saying goes. "One mans rubbish, is another mans treasure.
