Can someone please explain this then (and this isn't a dig or trying to stir things up) but one thing that's always got my annoyed is..

They aren't 50 years old, I don't understand why they claim they are?

Don't be silly.

Your Mini isn't 50 years old, does that mean it's not a Mini??

Mini is a brand not just a car.

You shol be happy that the brand lives on with the Binis!

Mini was a car designed by a genius that changed very little in it's lifetime.

Prior to it's launch, the word Mini didn't really exist as such but it then became the buzz word of the 1960's for lots of reasons. It also now appears in the dictionary and the description says it's a short skirt or a very small car. Ha.

But then a real Mini didn't need to wear a badge to tell everyone what it was, because most people knew.

In fact it was the general public who made the 'Mini' name stick, as Austin dealers were calling theirs the 'Austin Seven' (Morris dealers called theirs the 'Morris Mini Minor'). But as much as it annoyed the Austin sales people when everyone called the car a Mini, they soon switched it from Seven to Mini.

So the real Mini was a people car, more than just a brand like McDonalds or Starbucks etc.

I don't write on here often and i don't own a classic mini anymore but im on here reading most nights. I own a BMW mini i like the car i think it has character and is good fun to drive and something different. It is similar to the original mini in a lot of ways but it just doesnt have that special thing about it that the original does where everyone knows what it is and it puts a smile on their faces when they see it.

Anyway onto topic, the main reason for the disagreements between the old and new mini owner is the fact the new ones are made by BMW, we all know this, but i think the most hastle comes from the fact that neither side will accept each other properly because the cars are so disimilar. I have no side in the arguement i own a BMW mini and have previously owned a classic and would like to again but if i was just coming to the mini scene and see comments like the one listed earlier with the word 'scrap' in then i simply would think that its not a friendly atmosphere, not true on the tmf and possibly on other similar forums to.

I know as ive been on here for a while that it is the usual bunch that are on here having a conversation and thats great but it only takes one comment or thread and people are arguing about something stupid. Bmw bought mini in the same way the chinese company bought MG but i dont think there is as much rivalry as there is in the mini scene (correct me if im wrong). I as an owner of a bmw mini would like to be accepted at the shows with classic mini and not risk my car being damaged purely because it has the same name. I would like to get to know more people that live near me and i have spoken to on here purely to make new friends and put names and minis to faces :)
Nothing will ever really be as good and revolutionary as the original mini but i think BMW MINI is as close to the mini as we'll ever see with modern cars.

thats the thing though, its only a minority who damage cars, i cant think of anybody who has posted on here who would even think of doing that! as for being welcome at shows, lets face it, once we are out of our Minis or MINIs or w/e we drive and are in the show, we are all there for the same reason.......

as i said, most of the tension is from peoples views on the business dealings rather than the car, as i have said its very different from a Mini and im not a fan of them, but its part of the minis history at the end of the day so i got to accept that!

if you look down the history line the mini has been made by so many different companies, this i suppose is another one of them, just so much more different that its going to take a lot of time for people like me to accept it!

you know what im bored of this i don't like BINIs but no one on here can agrue that they are very well made good quality cars and they have bought a lot off attention back to the classic mini scene the only problem is that people (myself included) don't like the fact that bmw make them but thats not the owners or bmws fault as if British leyand and rover had bothered to properly develope the car then maybe it would of stayed british it could be worse the name could of died with the british motor trade at least this way some of the british jobs were kept.

That's just the opinion of 1 trader and he quite rightly said about the "jumble" guys.

They always rock up with old "treasure" or "scrap" - depends how you look at it!

A jumble is exactly that isn't it? Loads of used bits. As they say ones man's rubbish is another man's gold.

I'm not really sure with the BMW mini, I don't mind them, they're actually not really bad cars but I think what bugs me is their presence at classic mini shows, I don't mind them say being at Mitp where they race against classic minis as it is interesting and after all it is RWYB

The guy who started the topic on the BMW mini forum annoyed me, I mean he came to a large show packed with traders supplying for the classic mini, what did he expect? I think really understandably he was peeved about his bits going missing from his stand

You can rant as much as you like, but the Germans had the VW Beetle and that didn't change a great deal in it's very long lifetime. No and the Mini was much the same and that's what makes or made it so special.

If you can't see that, then you need to do more research.

But each to their own. Just stop calling people idiots simply because they have a different view to you.

It's a free world after all. Or at least it is since we beat Hitler during WW2.

wow your rasist too. since we beat hitler... yawn you say i should do research, honestly if the americans weren't involved we'dve been talking german.
honestly thats areally chavvy thing to even think of saying!

and 'the germans had the vw' whats that mean... you upset that there taking everything british from you... unfortunately pal germany can build cars, we cant. as people like you cant allow yourself top move on and change thinigs. the MINI (or bini as it's really wittly called!) is a great new model of a great ENGLISH car. p.s. Beetles are prettymuch the worst car you could ever drive, try a 1998 model (imported from mexico where they made them till 2003) still looking sounding and driving like a powerless cold box. they never moved on with anything on that at all!! the engine is awefull and noisey gutless and un effiecient!!
they sold well as they were cheep as *yellow human water* in a time where the country of origin was in masses of debt!

the mini atleast tried to make injection etc work! i like that you haven't even paid notice to anything i've said about the shape changing slow, or even able to make a half harted attemp to comment on what i said about the gold comparison of shape changing! as thats all the new mini is, a shape change for a modern time
nope you just went into a noble stance of dumb witted britishness, suppose you have a THE SUN poster of british jobs for british people...

well yeah, il flash a MINI if it flashes at me, i was with a mate in his Moke on the way back from himley a few years back, and a MINI flashed us, we looked at each other and went, "proper mini man" as we knew if they were just a MINI fan, they wouldnt have a clue what a Moke was! but when MINI owners just call our Minis scrap, its quite idiotic really, as they wouldnt have their passion if it wasnt for ours! and comments like that just fuel the disagreements on the matter! and unfortunatly as has been seen in this thread, all the owners get judged on the minority!

thankyou! cna someone close this thread with this guys comment being the sum up!! :)
