It was Steve that you dealt with, he is the boss and a friend od mine.
I cant defend this but I do understand his attitude with some customers.

Some customers meaning me? Like I said I'd been told to go down and they'd measure the stuff for me, I'd have done it myself if they'd had said so and saved myself £50...

Not having a go at you by the way Paul. :D

No, I didnt mean like you, sorry if thats what you thought.
Steve is a funny old sod, you need to know how to take him sometimes.
I understand his attitude though due to running my own business for a while. Basically most (and I dont mean you) customers are a pain in the arse and waste the time of businesses. If Steve gets an impression of someone (sometimes the wrong impression) he automatically decides 'this aint worth it'. Ive done it myself too - I even went as far as closing my Mini business to get away from customers.
Sometimes the prices he gives eg £80 to skim a head are because he has to measure the volume, work out the compression ratio, work out the volume for the desired compression ratio, work out how much to mill off the head, strip the head, set up a machine, machine the head, clean the head and rebuild the head.
I know it can take upto 45 minutes just for the machine process itself (thats how long it took to do mine) so all of it takes time - time is money and lots of people dont understand that.

That may be the case, but there are ways to talk to people. From what was said it sounded like he was pretty darn rude and offensive. No need for that.

LOL With a pinch of salt, which is the same of Swifty, Selby etc etc. They all believe theyre the best, they all have their own strengths in different areas in my experience so I get some parts from each of them to put together what I believe to be the best.

Yep I agree Steve is a bit awkward but he knows his stuff. lee usally deals with the normal public he's great with customers he's very helpfull as is Steve

I would ring them up try and speak to lee and explain what's happens and see what they can do for you.

I won't let this one thread put me off using them if you read some of the complaints most other builders get thease are the good guys.

I know what you mean Paul, I get it with people at work too. First thing he asked was 'do I know you?' which he didn't but I guess he'd already made his mind up.
It's alright though, I've found some where closer that only does minis to get the work done :P

I got my head and crank for my 1293 engine from them costing over £1,000 and was very happy with the time taken and quality of the work.

I would use them again.

Looks like you've managed to have a bad experience there...

Were you taking parts to exchange or parts to have work done too ?

I can't defend what has happened, but MED are one of the best in the business and their time is under great demand, and I suspect they are really up against it at the moment with the Mini Se7en and Miglia season nearly upon us ( think the first race is in a couple of weeks at Rockingham ), and you've just managed to catch them on the wrong day at the wrong time.

I really dont think thats an excuse to be honest.... i think its really rude of them, especially since ryan drove all the way there... i know MED are suppsedly 'the best' but it seems to me that that has got to their head... if he thinks that rayan is just someone who doesnt really know much and is 'wasting their time' then it doesnt cost anything to be polite and explain that his parts were old or that this way would be better... when i was working as a waitor in an 'a la carte' restaraunt i didnt say, 'what? scallops starter then salmon? what you gonna have for pudding? fishsticks?? that will be a larf'

now im just rambling.... lol

anyway, glad you have found somewhere else that is willing and probably cheaper!
