I think the can of petrol Andy had in the boot sealed the fate of the mini from the point it ignited, so any of the water pistol sized fire extinguishers probably wouldn't have helped much at all.
damned shame - was his pride and joy.....he does have a Mk1 deluxe that was his next project, so I guess that'll be brought forward a bit now.

Andy is a very up-beat guy, and I'm pretty sure this wont have him down for long.

will have a rummage round the unit and find as many bits as I can to donate

most importantly him and his passenger got out and was safe :(

I wouldnt buy a flamebeater, my sister bought one ages ago and at point of sale the seller said "dont expect this to put out a fire, these are more for show use" doesnt say this on the extingiusher itself though. Even just looking at it you'd struggle to put out a fire in a waste paper bin with it, nowhere near enough fluid in it.

This has me a bit worried now as I have one of those Flamebeater things in mine. Just had a qick nose on Halfords site and found this

http://www.halfords....=IOV4PLPZ1#dtab

I think I am going to invest in a couple of these ASAP. They are for type B and C fires and electrical up to 1000V so these should be ideal.

Thing is, see how it says "950g Beta fire extinguisher ideal for homes, garages and work" I still dont think that would be big enough for a car fire. In the event of a fire I guess youd want to aim to have a bit left over in the extinguisher rather than the other way round.

These are a lot more expensive, but they are bigger, you'd stand a better chance with one of these :( http://www.merlinmot..._222/index.html

All the sound proofing foam really does is keep the moisture in and aid rust anyway. It doesn't even really reduce the noise alot, so as you say your better off without it.
Looks neater without it aswell. :(

Sorry to hear about the loss of another mini and another pride and joy :) If i can help in anyway let me know. I think i'm fairly local. (Grimsby area)

Avoid flamebeaters, they are rubish.. PLEASE someone tell me the date of the minimag issue on exinguishers?

Or scan in the page so we can keep people updated on whats good or not etc.

That Halfrauds one looks like the new version from the same designer that faild when MM did the test.

Get one plumbed in or get a Biggun, dont make my mistake and think by having two extinguishers your are safe. Many are not much more use than peeing into the wind :(

WOW really sorry to hear this, its such a shame to see so much hard work go up like that :(

Im afraid i don't have anything available for donation, all i have are the bits that i need to put back on the mini - no spares :)

GARRET3: Just out of interest when you say the fire extinguishers failed, in what way? Do you mean you pulled the trigger but nothing came out? If so, that's terrible! How can they get away with selling them?!!

I've got one of those chrome ABC fire extinguishers, I've seen ABC extinguishers used in many buildings so went for a recognised brand.

I've had a small fire due to an electrical fault, managed to get it out but still very scary.
