its important that they are secured in and not flopping about, you dont want stuff flying around the car in an accident/roll.

From that day onwards, I installed a 1kg extinguisher into my Astra, in front of the passenger seat- felt a lot happier with it there! Really should get one for the Mini..

my step dads 1100 clubby caught fire due to the foam sound proofing in the engine bay. he didnt have an extinquisher to hand but luckily another mini owner who was nearby did and stoped to put it out......its always worth having one just incase
(and get rid of your soundprooffiing!!! :L)
All the sound proofing foam really does is keep the moisture in and aid rust anyway. It doesn't even really reduce the noise alot, so as you say your better off without it.
Looks neater without it aswell.
