This is awful! My worst fear driving Bev around is her setting on fire. Slightest smell of burning/smoke and I am checking all around her. I'm glad that nobody was hurt but really so sorry about the poor car!

its important that they are secured in and not flopping about, you dont want stuff flying around the car in an accident/roll.

Years ago when I was into Vauxhalls (ahem..) I had an Astra GSi with a Calibra Turbo lump. A friend had a similar setup, which he'd paid someone loads to do the engine conversion. To cut a long story short, his car ended up in flames and was totally gutted.

From that day onwards, I installed a 1kg extinguisher into my Astra, in front of the passenger seat- felt a lot happier with it there! Really should get one for the Mini..

my step dads 1100 clubby caught fire due to the foam sound proofing in the engine bay. he didnt have an extinquisher to hand but luckily another mini owner who was nearby did and stoped to put it out......its always worth having one just incase :) (and get rid of your soundprooffiing!!! :L)

All the sound proofing foam really does is keep the moisture in and aid rust anyway. It doesn't even really reduce the noise alot, so as you say your better off without it.
Looks neater without it aswell. :(

Sorry to hear about the loss of another mini and another pride and joy :) If i can help in anyway let me know. I think i'm fairly local. (Grimsby area)

:( good advice about soundproofing tho, really doesnt do anything to the 'noise'
