Finished plumbing the engine in and fitted the carb with all pipes and cables connected. Manifold water jacket stubs are corroded so used a piece of copper pipe to by-pass it for now, I'll probably swap it for the Mini Spares one on my Minor as that one isn't connected up to the cooling system.

Built up a heater from the three I've got using the oldest matrix of them all - the older ones seem to be more substantial with proper soldered connections instead of the crappy plastic things on the later ones. The fins are a bit knackered but at least it doesn't leak. Also fitted an inertia switch for the Facet pump.

Fitted cam bearings, followers and the camshaft itself. Then fitted the crank and checked the end float. Moving along now...

What is it, where did you get them from, how much and how does it make it quiet?

They're helical drop gears. I removed the straight cut drops and can't believe the difference. My ears don't bleed at 7,000 revs anymore. The only mistake I made was fitting them in the car; if I could have got hold of an engine hoist it would have been quicker to remove the engine. I bought them from John at Guessworks.
