Damn Beautiful. Did they not give you any trouble for the wheels on top? I have heard that RORO services dont allow ANY parts in or on the car that arent essential to it driving to the destination.

No trouble at all for that, nor for the box of bits that was stashed in the boot - it was a bit cheeky to throw these things in/on the car but luckily for me it didn't result in any problems!

Today 'Cooperkid' & I got the engine of my 1990 rally 1330 cc Cooper started for the first time in over 8 years.

I bought the car back from a friend, having restored and prepared it for my own use back in 2003 - 4. It was sold in 2005, but sadly neglected and it has needed a full respray and quite a bit of welding.

However, we got 55 psi on the starter before firing it up and after re-setting the timing, putting in new oil and filter, adding thin oil to the dashpot and doing a general check it fired up beautifully. There is just a slight leak from the rocker gasket and I've run out of gaskets, so order from MS will happen tomorrow.

ll that is left to do is to fit a new flasher unit, raise the front ride height to about 2 cm above standard and re-track the front wheels. Then re-fit the two Super Osar driving lights and it's off for MoT sometime next month.

I got my wish!

Several days of rain, since the thaw, to wash away the rock salt, followed by a dry, sunshiny day.

That meant I could drag the Mini out of the garage and get the fluids, both mine and the car's, running warm and free for the first time, since December, seems like ages.

I had, almost, forgotten how good it feels to chuck a Mini around on tarmac.

Happy days!

Tried the new wheels on the car just to see how wide they were then took it for a little run just to warm it up, came back with a smile on my face, its been to long without driving it.

What a shame, but the GT def looks the bee's knees with just std arches and nothing extra!

Wished I had a hydraulic lift, it would have made fitting a new set of Mini Spares C-AEG371 downpipes and link pipe, Catalyst and RC40 back box, a lot easier than it was on ramps and axle stands.

As usual with a MIni I had to do a bit of fettling to get it to fit: chopping an inch off the link pipe to get the back box clear of the subframe.

Greased the front suspension while I had it up in the air.

All ready for its MOT. He whined about the old exhaust, last year, so I figured a new one would keep him happy.

Skinned and fitted the drivers door. Just need to make up some shims to move it back. Very happy

Sailed through its MOT.

Hopefully I'll get more miles on it in the next year. I was about 2,500mls down on my average in 2020.

About to do the same pretty soon! Mine ALWAYS fails the MOT first time around on emissions due to decat by previous owner. Mixture has to be leaned out to get the emissions anywhere close to where should be.

I’m going for a full Maniflow system front to back with a new catalyst to get it passed emissions.

Looked at the pile of gearbox internals on the bench and the sad looking Mini in the front garden and wondered when I would find the time to get it back on the road.
