I've been fitting new outer sills on a 1993 Mini Open Classic for my Grandson (Cooperkid). Some idiot had fitted oversills, but the inner sills are still OK (thank goodness). Why do so-called 'Mini Specialists' fit those oversills?

Bit of a faff on, but managed to fit the Maniflow Freeflow manifold.

Its just a case of knowing where to twist & drop in the right places.

I’ve used Colinite 456S on previous cars before.

It’s good long lasting stuff.

Pipes from tank to carb replaced including filter (MPI).
New fuel in.
Tried to start but no joy.
Checked fuel to carb - good
Checked and cleaned all spark plugs - good and sparking
Removed carb and found it was full of gunk and not freely moving. So need to service carb hopefully that’s it.
Need a new manifold gasket and I lost a washer somewhere in the engine bay.

Tonight I started to fit the Maniflow twin box exhaust system.

Managed to fit the front link pipes up until the catalyst.

Fitted the rear brackets ready for the back box, but realised the clamps were too small.

Also, realised I’m getting too old to crawl around under cars! :shy:

Started re-building the gearbox after the mainshaft bearing began grumbling.

Today I have been sorting out an oversill nightmare.

Not my car, but one recently bought as needing final restoration.

It had oversills which obviously needed removing and the original type fitting. The RH side was as expected with some residue from the old inners still there and needing to be cut off. This was easy.

Then on to the LH side where some so-called professional body restoration had fitted an oversill over another earlier oversill with the rusty remains of the original sill beneath it.

All cut back now and the new outer together with jacking point repair can start shortly.

Why, oh why, do companies calling themselves Mini restoration experts do this sort of thing?

I won't name names, but the sticker in the rear window would identify the culprit.

I do understand you not naming names but it would be handy for people to know who to avoid.
