I had straight cuts in my old Mini and the sound is awful! I have to drive this places for work so I don't want a gearbox that sounds broken and gives me a headache :P I'm old beyond my years!

:)

Erm, thanks :)

Oh noooo! I've just come on to upload some updated photos of the car, and either Aperture or Flickr has taken it upon itself to delete my entire TMF set! I've republished the missing photos, but without the ability to edit my previous posts, my project thread no longer works :(

They are a bit nice

So I fitted them

This is an iPhone 4S camera, it's meant to take better photos than that :-|

And the hugely significant job, I fixed the light!

I've also changed the rotary coupling for the airbag, the SRS light is behaving now. I've also got a proper MPi windscreen to fit at some point, although I think I'll wait for the better weather.

Mini! I've cleaned it and it's dirty again.

Thanks Shifty, I would do, but as all the locations and names have now changed on Flickr, it's too big a job to ask!

He won't do it for you but there may be a way to allow you to edit your own posts for a while?

A great deal of horrible salt and dirt was washed off today :)

And it looks like a new gearbox is happening sooner rather than later!

Replacement lambda sensor by bcjamesmini, on Flickr

But after taking the inlet off, undoing the exhaust, moving bits out the way, I still couldn't get the old one out. It's tight for room, and the crappy Laser lambda socket flares rather than doing anything.

She's off to Guessworks next week to have the gearbox fixed, and the lambda fitted at the same time. Hopefully she'll feel like a new car when she comes back!

Shes looking lovely James :proud:

Were you tempted to try and do the gearbox yourself? ... Ive been using the Haynes as my bath book and my brains going 'I could do that' but think im delusional

Maybe I should stop the BIB (beer in bath) >_<

That was my original intention. I've got a good tool kit here, and with the various books, tmf and taking my time, I don't think it would have been overly difficult. The only thing I don't have is an engine hoist, although they aren't massively expensive. Doing it myself would mean a few other jobs could get done too. The engine bay could use some paint in places, the back of the engine could too, and the brake servo is a bit crusty.

The gearbox has got a lot worse in the last few weeks, and I need to begin using the car as my daily soon. Well, now actually due to my new job, aside from I'm trying not to drive it! As such, and since the labour rate is really quite good, the car is going away for a week to have just the gearbox and maybe any engine issues that crop up sorted out. It does mean the other little jobs will have to wait, but as the rust keeps getting worse, I'll do them when it finally needs the welding doing. At the moment I can't afford the car off the road for long, or the time to do the job myself.

I've never had a mini with an as-new gearbox in. It's going to be brilliant :D

Yeah I'm the same with the no engine hoist, its going on my birthday list. My brains considering all sorts at the moment, what I SHOULD do is sell Paddy and get a cheaper mini that Im happier working/learning on myself but hes more mine and Max is Janes so I'd miss him :(

New gearbox woohooo posh posh! Good luck with the new job!!

That's how I felt when I first got this car, it was too nice to do myself and needed to go to the Mini specialists for everything, and it's not even an LE  Do you still have three Minis now?

If time isn't an issue for getting the car back on the road, try it! I didn't know a thing when I got my first Mini, and first car, back in 2008. It was a simple carb'd Mayfair, and I just jumped in with the Haynes manual when something wanted doing. I know (comparatively) loads now!
