Piston rings, shells (big end and main), and a block hone and a damn good clean?

Edit: Never mind, just noticed you're on about gaskets...

Nah, while you are on the topic of that, is it feasible? It would sort of mean I don't need to buy a new engine

That it can be done like that, to solve my 'losing compression past the rings' problem. Everyone so far has said that to keep my original block, it needs a 20 overbore, and then pistons etc to suit, or an as-new replacement block.

That depends on whether its your block thats worn, or the rings... Only way to find out is to strip it down and measure it, and go from there!

Only downside to this is it involves taking the car off the road whilst you wait for parts and machining (whether it be honing or a boring out). Finding an a new MPI block will definitely be the dearer option, but i guess you already know that :shifty:

The MPi half engine isn't too expensive, not when I add up the various machining work and time to strip and rebuild it all.

Craig, no :P

Fair enough, only you can decide whether it's worth it! Good luck with the rebuild, been watching this thread for yonks.

Thanks

The engine kit just needs my gearbox and head sticking on it and it's good to go in, the internals are all built already. That sort of sounds straight forward

Do I want to get another top rail, a cream cover by Optimise, and swap them over? I think I'll leave the bottom one standard, as per the other late cars with different coloured top ones. I bought an MPi windscreen to replace the normal Mini one on the car at the moment, so it's all going to be accessible soon!

Anyone know how many bolts the upper rail has on an MPi?

If I remember correctly it's three. one tierh side and one on a funny bracket that goes through the ashtray cutout in the upper dash rail panel.
