So in that lot is:

Rover factory replacement half engine
Clutch
Loads of gaskets
Oil and filters
Standard wheel arches to be painted green
Windscreen rubber and tool
Expansion tank.
Engine mounts and stabiliser bushes.

Also ordered is a Swiftune SW5i.

Now I just need someone to add that lot to the new gearbox and head already on the car.

The only thing I didn't buy was timing gear. I didn't know if I should get simplex, duplex, lightened duplex, or a vernier duplex. Any advice on that would be welcomed.

Damn it James, half-engine porn photos for crying out loud! Oh yeah - welcome to the oil change fast lane as well. :D

Patience dear Oli!

Do you think I should take it out, photos, and paint the block in advance of assembly, or wait until its together and then paint it?

I had paint prior to assembly, ridiculous amounts of masking tape of course.

Then maybe it will see daylight tomorrow  I'm quite excited about it all happening now. Talking done, this is doing!

The factory satin black finish on the block looks really good, I am not sure if I should paint it gloss black or leave it satin as it is.

Just waiting on the cam, and I need to decide on a timing chain.

I just want to build it now :proud:

To fit the sw5 you'll need either and adjustable duplex vernier or a duplex with some offset key ways to time the cam in correctly. If you're doing it yourself then you'll also need a DTi and stand.

I always paint each part and then assemble, I hate seeing the exposed edges of gaskets painted!!

Also new followers, it may be better to just buy the full kit from swiftune?

I'm hoping Mr Yardy is going to fit my cam. I think I understand how to do it from Andys threads on engine building, but I don't have the kit.

For a daily drive build, would a regular duplex and offset keys giving sufficient timing accuracy? It's £25 vs £75 which isn't much in the big scheme of things but after yesterdays big spend I've suddenly become very frugal

I bought the rebuild kit from swiftune, cam, followers and oil pump. I couldn't bring myself to pay the extra £110 for the kit with the vernier in. >_<

Using the offset keys is fine, its just a bit more of a faff and takes longer. If you don't have the correct key then you'll need to buy one which could mean a delay on the build..............!!

Hmm, decisions! I probably should have bought the one in Minispares yesterday.

I'm working in Loughborough this week, so I could pick this up.
