Hi all,
another day, another opportunity to slop some rustoleum on the shell. Windy as hell but sunny and one shower so not ideal conditions, glad I am not spraying as would have covered the neighbours' drive in paint !!
All going well, 2nd coat now, new rollers, trays, sponge brushes, even a new pot of paint !! Orange peel a little less than the 1st coat after a 600 grit rub down, but then noticed a few problem areas on the shell.
The doorstep isn't that much trouble to rub down and re do, but the a panel and a couple of other small areas are more of a worry. Did the 4th coat on the boot, no reactions and is looking good, and the bonnet, which I had the worst reaction on.
There are a few patch, rather than lines on the bonnet too, just don't know what I have got contaminated with. The lines on the bonnet suggest tray or roller contamination but I panel wiped the tray first after the shell problems, which leaves the roller!! Gave the bonnet and shell a good panel wiping before any paint, maybe a little wet sand residue left, just don't know, VERY frustrated, thought Rustoleum was pretty bomb proof !!
Anyway, more sanding to come lol !!

Bottled out of spraying it on the front to be honest, and I haven't got £1000+ spare for a professional job as too many other things going on at the moment. A spray job is no guarantee of no reactions tho. Will just have to rub the areas down well and re try when the paint has hardened a touch.

Hi all,
Dave, glad you are finding the thread helpful, there are so many good build threads to choose from for info. Thanks for the comments fellas, always appreciated.
Sooooooooo, reaction sort of dried, I flaked it off with me thumb nail and gave it a good 400 grit and went to bare metal in a couple of places.
I patched a bit of paint on the shell areas so it could dry in the sun and rollered on another coat on the bonnet and boot. Looks ok but the reacted areas have a small dip which will need some extra work if I can be bothered when it is done, depends how it turns out.
Rubbed the affected areas on the shell with 400 grit and the rest 600 and cleaned thoroughly with soapy water and then panel wipe leaving a typical area to roller on like this
Can't get much cleaner than that !! Rinsed rollers, brushes and trays in panel wipe just to make sure and went for it.
Rubbed down, again, lol , a bit too much in places !
3rd coat on
Sun was warm and the paint didn't half dry quickly, sometimes once I had done the tricky bits with a foam brush, a line had formed when I started to roller, fortunately it was just wet enough to remove after a couple of minutes.
The peel is still there but the wet sanded surface is getting better and this is showing a bit more depth to the paint, if as I said, a little peely at the moment.
Almost dry already after two hours so well pleased I got up early to get a coat on. I think this will be a 10ft paint job to be honest, but at least it will be protected.

Graham its coming. Until you've sanded and sanded and then it goes wrong no one knows that pain. But I'm with you Graham. I'm hurting with you too. You notice I have very little to show just now. So total empathy here. We've been doing that together a couple of years now! Why do we do it!? I like that colour so much.

Colour is nice, white roof to do too which will set it off well. We will eventually be at a show together I'm sure, which decade it will be in I'm not committing to tho lol.

I have read this right through and you are doing a great job and its looking great. Looks like once the coats of rustoleum have been built up there is no reason why it won't flat back and polish up to a good finish!
Only one thing, having never used rustoleum, will it be ok to spray over in the future should you decide to have it sprayed or will it have to come off?
Keep it up mate

Graham keep persevering with it mate and you will get there.Once you get round to flatting it back for polishing you will need to possibly start with 1200 possibly 1400 and then work your way down to 2000 with plenty of soapy water (car shampoo but not with polish in it)
At least you are getting plenty of paint on there which will allow you more flexibility when it comes round to cutting it back.
