Hi all,

not sure down the lists I have fallen but I gave up looking for my thread at 20+ lol.  Extension and garden now done it's about time I pushed on with the mini !

So I peeled away the covers to discover it it in good shape following 15 months of near inactivity so am pretty chuffed.  Few rusty bolt heads but on the whole it has faired well through two Winters.

Started by fitting the rear cones I bought recently as I just didn't like the way the springs sat,  but that is just my personal opinion.

Went in a treat but need adjustment lol

One thing that has not faired well is the dust seal on the end of the radius arm which has perished and split on pretty much all seals.

I want to get it water tight asap so the rear loom was next,  threaded in using some cord.

IMG_0143_zps1366405f.jpg

No problems and everything wire wise seems to be in the right place so happy days.  Popped the loom through to the engine bay,  amazingly I still had the grommet !

IMG_0145_zpsb149ceaf.jpg

That done I can get the headlining in soon and windows,  but tried to sort the front cones first but they seemed too wide to fit up the turret.

IMG_0149_zps9cc77ffd.jpg

I have to wiggle them up apparently to get them in,  it's been so long since I stripped the front subby I had forgotten.

Anyway,  I'm back in the mini game.

Graham

Thanks for the welcome back.

A little more done today, just rebuilt the brake and clutch cylinders ready for fitting.

Also sorted out how to fit the cones but have to wait for dust seals before I put it all together.

Soon have some more pics!

Hi all,

told you I was back in the game lol.

Sun out so did a few bits,  first a pic of my master and slave cylinders from last time

IMG_0164_zps62453934.jpg

Next was back to the grinder to get the old sheered off ignition barrel,  cutting discs don't like aluminium but they got it off and I fitted my fleabay replacement.

steercol_zps8629612f.jpg

Not sure if this should have a cover on it though?  All the ignition wires are open inside the steering column cover if not.

Next welding,  thought I had finished this part of the resto but I had not put the bonnet latch back on. I marked,  welded and seam sealed the welds.

IMG_0159_zpsbbce4d05.jpg

Not my best welding but a couple of plugs ans a few bits on the side and it's not going anywhere.  Just needs some paint on the inside now.

My radius arm dust seals came but I desperately need a cone compressor to get the cones in,  ahhhhhhhhh,  but I will sort soon.

So I decided to fit the pedal box and master cylinders.  What a faf,  I forgot how it came out so scratched buggery out of the footwell paint but it will be ok with a touch up,  it's under carpet anyway.

IMG_0167_zps994c5357.jpg

I made my own seals and paper gaskets as I couldn't fine any proper ones and I hav some 1mm rubber and gasket paper.  Also did the blanking plate for the other side.

stop_zps397f0818.jpg

I fitted a piece of the pedal box with a little bit of rubber on it.  Can only think it goes here as a stop for the accelerator pedal. Am asking in tech section.

Things are slow as the paint means things are tighter than they were originally,  and I can't find all the bolts because they were probably rusted !

Getting on with it feels good,  just need a compression tool !

Hi Darren,

Nice to hear from some old friends again. Matthew is insistent that it is for him lol, despite me saying otherwise. He is after moving to Oz in about 5 years so I may well inherit it in reverse !!

Fortunately babies are way gone for me, had em early, but things do get in the way. Never give up, I have regular mickey taking from lads in work about it being for Matthews 40th but it will be good when done.

Graham
