The hole in the bottom of the flywheel housing it there to drain any oil that may get into the casing through a dodgy primary gear oil seal. It stops the casing fill up with oil and affecting the clutch. And also makes it obvious there's a leak by dripping the oil all over the floor.
Thanks for that mate, makes perfect sense now!
I've been down to the garage for an hour after work this evening to do some grinding back of welds and take some snaps!

The hole where the battery box came from (hole for the cable still to weld up)

Can't remember what this bit is called

New holes for subframe bolts

This is my latest 1275 block (standard bore) I've oiled the bores then wrapped the whole thing in cling film
I've got lots more grinding of welds to do, I may do another hour tomorrow night, the ear plugs make it far more bearable!

Challenging was not the word!
The main issue is the car has had one of the rear corners replaced at some point and it's not quite the right shape, and I want to go for the debumpered look so it's being seem welded from the inside then the lip will be removed!
So after lots of clamping, tacking, clamping, tacking it's in the correct place!
I'm also going to partially remove the vertical bit which is right at the bottom of the valance.
It's not at the stage where I'm willing to show this to anyone so no pics yet!
I'll get back on it on Saturday as the Mrs is at work and I'm off! Only a tiny bit of gas left, so I'll get that used up and get some more ordered!

wealder ok matey?
Yeah, it likes more of a distance from the tip to the place you're welding, but that's not the end of the world!
It might not be the prettiest thing but it's certainly doing the job!
