I have flatted the primer with 400grit discs on blocks and an orbital sander however, I will go back over with 600 before paint to reduce the pig tails from the orbital sander and the scratches from the block sanding.
The 400 is just to get the primer flat and shaped
The problem with basecoat is that it doesn't fill any imperfections. You can get away with more with some colours but colours like this and silvers need A1 prep

Rubber boots arrived.
Boot lid has some filler edges showing through the paint. No biggy, Ill just block it and re-prime

Holes for rubber loom boots are cut
Here are the boots, for a Mk2 Golf tailgate
Hole marked and cut
And boot fitted
I think it may need sticking in though as the A post is 3 skins thick and the boot is only designed for 1 skin
I was going to start painting it today but my spray booth needed some TLC and what started off as a simple job of changing the filters ended up being a full deep clean and re seal. It really needed doing and i thought it would be wise to do it before the respray to minimise any trash in the paint.
Anyway, got that done and pushed the Mini in along with some of the parts ready to go.
First on the agenda tomorrow after a mask up is to paint the exposed interior panels
And the the roof
Ill prob paint the arches and grille first with the interior

Everything ready for the first lot of painting
And done
Its a really interesting colour in that it changes alot depending on the light.
Here it is on the ariel in semi sunlight inside the workshop
I then re-masked ready for the roof and bonnet
You will have to wait for the finished photos as I am going to have to re-paint the roof. Someone opened the service door on the booth mid way and the extractor pulled a mist of dust straight across the booth
