Fitted my airhorns today, finally got round to doing it, took out the old wiring for the spotlights, and replaced the relay and fitted my airhorns. They are extremely loud! Anyone who cuts me up or jumps out in front of me is going to get a blast!

Hey all, I have been busy spending money on my pocket rocket! Spent a few bob on ebay, including a Smiths Dual Oil and Water Temp gauge

and also an unleaded head!

What do you think? Is it worth getting the head gass flowed? Or making an modifications to the head?

Its a Cam 4810 to go on my 850.

I am also currently buying a Cooper Freeflow and alloy inlet manifold:

The head will be just fine bolted straight on mate :w00t: but you could always play with it a bit, Wont do any harm

Head + freeflow = immensly more fun on your 850, I think you'll be very pleasantly suprised Tom

Thank you, I hope so too. Having a few problems at the moment. Took her down to my friends workshop to be timed with a strobe light. I couldnt manage to move the dizzy at all! It had seized to the block somehow. Disappeared into the workshop for a little while and decided I wouldnt be beaten, Rockeze did the trick. Absolutely amazing solution! Timed the dizzy to factory standard setting, and put the points back on. She doesnt like the electronic igniton, as soon as you press the accelerator she doesnt rev, just knocking noises from the block! So put the points back on, I suspect the coil to be honest, will be purchasing a new standard coil.

The problems don't stop there, driving home, she is full of flat spots, wont go, it feels as if the engine is restricted, rocking back and forth :dontgetit: I am also rocking in my seat to, eager to go! I had to pull over several times to let people past ;D I decided the timing wasnt correct and unbolted the distributer and tried timing it by ear. Whatever position the dizzy was put in, I still had the same problem. So now I'm thinking, it isnt the timing at fault and I've just buggered my nicely timed dizzy :) So that will have to be done again. I suspect the carb is the problem, need to fit the jet and tweak it in the hope of it running right :dontgetit:

Does the float chamber have to be at a certain angle?

Somehow, I need to get the Mini setup by my own accord on the drive. Need a timing gun!

So I am currently unable to use my mini ^_^

** In what way could I play with the head? Does the unleaded head give any performance?

Tom (Edit: video added)

Video, hear the flatspot? Could it be fuel related?

:dontgetit: Help...

Yes indeed I have, but its 1 step forward and 2 steps back. She is smoking seriously badly, alot of smoke, can smell oil in the smoke I think. She sounds as if she is running on 3 cylinders. Bad misfire. >:w00t: >:D >:D >:P Cant use her, again when I need heer the most :P

Persistant problem, comes and goes, what what is it that works one day and doesnt the next?

Not a happy bunny :D

Well the smoke will either be the valve stem oil seals in the head (but you're replacing the head anyway aren't you?) or the piston rings worn.

the running problem is exactly what my old 1098 did when the piston rings had gone, however It's also pretty in keeping with dodgy electrics, have you checked the dizzy cap contacts? (are you still running leccy ignition?)

I took the E.I off as it just wouldnt run right with it on. The points are now set up and the timing to factory standard.

She is burning oil like nobodies business :P

Just need to wait for my unleaed head to come now... cant use the car until then as she doesnt run right.

Filled her up with alot of oil today so that will explain why shes smoking alot. I bet the seals have gone. She runs okish with little oil in...

Why is the problem intermittent?

Could just be that with heat the seals swell up and do a better job. Tom are 100% sure it's the head? It sounds as if it is but i just want to make sure we can dismiss the piston rings.

Going to get my haircut and then set about 'the lund project' :D

Might even also be a sticky valve, was running on 3 cylinders this morning and couldnt get it to run right. Got home today started her up, same again, so I shovved the choke in and gave her a few harsh revs and something changed, and she then idled perfectly, without smoke... So i took her for a spin!

:D She runs best on minimum oil! So drained alot off, and shes fine, that suggests she is burning oil and it is leaking through somewhere. Will find out in a matter of time when my unleaded head arrives... hmm, think I'm okay for another month now

Thanks Mike.

Thank youu!

The unleaded head has been skimmed now, so I'll be painting that black and hopefully fitting it in the near future
