Bit more's been done over the last few days! finished the welding on the bulkhead

Posted Image Posted Image

front end has been covered with a few layers of this filler primer, just a bit of light sanding then it'll have a few layers of proper primer then topcoat!! :w00t:

Also stripped my engine down a bit! Took all the stuff on the outside off (water, oil and fuel pumps, slave cylinder and all other brackets and stuff) rocker assembly, head, flywheel housing and diaphragm are now off as well! Going out to get a flywheel puller tomorrow! :w00t:

Posted Image
Dished pistons? Standard? also bit worried about the fact that it looks like the valve has been hitting the piston

Posted Image
Would you say this head has been recon'd 200 miles ago like i was told?#

Posted Image
diaphragm doesn't look too old though

apologies for the amout of pics!

WEYHEY!! FINALLY GOT THE BAR STEWARD FLYWHEEL OFF!! It took me and my dad about 5 hours over two days but we did it!! started off by forgetting to take off the keyed washer (schoolboy error :P) but then when we'd got the puller on right and super super tight it would not move at all! Even had a metre long bit of box section either side of the socket but we couldn't keep the engine still! So we gave up for the night hoping it would have 'popped off' like they sometimes do but no cigar and expected it'd welded itself to the crank. Out comes the blowtorch! Few minutes heating it up and spitting on it (thanks for the tip Mini_sprocket ;)) and another go on the puller and it moved about an inch more, then again... BANG!! ITS OFF!!! :teehee: YIPPEE!! Then amused myself for another ten minutes taking the flywheel housing off and so thats where i am...

I keep forgetting about parts I've got! Yeah can't wait to get the seats fitted, i think they might be a bit high though, we'll see but may have to redesign the subframes.

Not fully decided on a yellow new MG trophy yellow and old MG Inca yellow are high on the list, as is 106 GTI and even smart car yellow ;)

Yeah it came in handy in persuading the flywheel and housing to come out!

Soon start the arduous (spellin') task of rubbing down before topcoat. Bulk head will probably be the paint test area. I'm spraying it first so i can crack on getting the subframes and suspension components in...

don't know how much help I'll get in here regards to this so lets see!

Just been having a closer look at my crank+conrods (deciding whether to take them out) when i noticed a few things!

Posted Image <-click to enlarge

Red arrows - Definately looks like its been ground down here and another place, was this done in the factory or could i have a balanced crank?

Blue arrows - Numbers scored into the big ends. Again was this factory or could someone have inspected these in the past?

Green arrow - bit of green paint on here and on other parts of the crank. What's that about?!

Any idea? :proud:

I might - which plate is it exactly - send me a pic.

Woo more progress! (lots of pics but most as links so save upload times (eco friendly  ))

Got it on its side to have a go at some welding to the floorpan and sills. (nerve wracking! lol) and now its leaning up against my cupboards so I can't get at anything :P !

Posted Image

again

The worst part was around the rear jacking point but cut and grinded for a while and treated areas to some kurust until ready for welding. Made sure i didn't forget the inside :P (do i look like this smiley?) Same goes for an area at the front of the sill shape cut out so new part goes in flush :-

So got on with the welding of the floorpan replaced the jackstand with a new one from M Machine and gave it a coat of red oxide

I'll get on with welding the sill after L2B :P

wow looks really good.

Did you know though that the bit that you call the jack stand isn't that at all. it is what they used in the factory to hold the shell to the dolly. i think that they can come off altogether to be honest

Oh really?! I'd never use it as a jacking point but thats just what they called it in the M Machine catalogue!

Miniboo soo wise
