Hammeriting rear subframe

Got to get some late subframe mounts to match up with the bushes and bolts I've got! Then paint them all up black to contrast the silver subframe and set off the yellow bushes!

Dont forget to cover up those big holes in the back edge of the subframe that can be seen in the picture with some duct tape :(

Nah the rear cast iron trunnion mount is on the wrong way

(well i followed a picture in some parts catalogue (that huge one they were giving away at L2B (another story)) but in the Haynes and on my red mini that trunnion is on the other way round.

But should that bush be the other way round then? As in big side on the inside?

Had to stop work on the rear subframe, awaiting a few more new parts from SC Parts (anyone used them before?) so I've dug the front subframe out and started cleaning it up. Should have a layer or two of hammerite on tomorrow, then I gotta get some paint on the bulkhead before that goes on! :proud: big step!

Here my new wire angle grinder brush that is gonna abuse the surface rust and underseal on the subframe!

Posted Image
No pain no gain. My thumb got a bit close to the brush (after i took the guard off ;)) there was actually a bit of wire stuck in my thumb there :) I didn't cry

I have, and a few of my mates have as they are about a 15minute drive from my house, unfortunately after all of our experiences i would'nt go near them EVER again!! I don't know of anyone who has ever received a complete or correct order from them. They are nice to talk to on the phone and very helpful in the shop but personally i soon came to realise thats about all their good at >:proud:
By the way if you have ordered something from them to be posted to you their favourite trick (when you phone to ask why the parts you ordered 3 weeks ago haven't turned up) is to tell you it has got lost in the post and they will re-send them.
Sorry mate, i can only hope you have more luck with them than we did.

That wire brush is one of the best tools I bought, but, it seems you have already found out that it can be rether dangerous. My advice is to use a full face shield when using this as those shards of the steel wire will make a real mess of your face or more seriously your eyes. Also be VERY aware of the tool when in use. Other than that it makes light work of cleaning things up for welding and paint removing, just dont get carried away near the edges of thin metal.
