Not sure if this in right area
Am using iPhone. Question

I bought a project mini on Wednesday and the person i got it off gave me
2 log books. One for the cooper and one for the city. I received everything to do with the city but for the cooper I got everything apart from
The shell.
I'm putting the cooper 1275 engine into the city shell aswell as the interior so basically I'll have a cooper.
What do I do about the two log books. I thought dvla would keep it as a modified city as that's the chassis number and it would b modified to a cooper. Is this right and do I have to register both log books into my name as I don't have the shell for the cooper?

Thanks

Im assuming he gave you the second log book as he was planning to "reshell" the cooper with the city shell, and given you the option to do so.
Staying out of the legalities of this as there is always somebody ready to jump in with the old comment about an sva/iva/bva ;D

i could be wrong on this, but if you use the cooper log book on the city its very dodgey, just use city log book n inform dvla of mods engine change etc. because at end of day, this car will be a city, with 1275 engine

depends after bodywork if the shell has any distinguishing features. ie. vin number on the scuttle.

If not then there is no way of knowing which model it is and which plates it should have ;D

ps. the City has a lower insurance group than a Cooper, and depending on your age, this could make quite a difference to your premium

The legal way of doing this is to use the City log book as that belongs to the actual car you're using.

If you want to use the Cooper lump in the car then hang onto that log book for a bit(make sure to sorn it) as when you change the engine you'll need all the details off that to give to the DVLA.

Anything else is probably Illegal and definately NOT condoned by TMF.

This is what I was thinking. A city with a 1275 like you said plus the interior and everythif off the shell that I'd cooper. City vin
Numbers shell be staying on the city.

I wasn't sure if I should put the cooper in my name as I didn't have the shell for it that's alL.
Had already considered the 1275 city cheaper to insure aswell because I'm 24 haha

Thank you for help n if you think of anything it will b appreciated. The fibreglass front end is going to happen now. Please check out my thread in complete mini rebuild

Thank you

If you put the cooper V5 in your name you're always going to be responsible for SORNing it etc, even though the shell may not exist!

The City will always be a City - be prepared for the Spanish Inquisition from DVLA if you tell them of engine chnage - they may want a certificate from a 'garage' to confirm the engine change and the capacity change. Be warned - they may with-hold the log book until you do this - so be sure to have a new tax disc on the car BEFORE telling them of the engine change. The Cooper you can of course reshell into a NEW shell from Heritage - so keep the log book in your name. No hassle to SORN it once a year.........

depending on the year of the cooper someone might buy the log book of you and re shell it using a genuine heritage shell
as mentioned before though dont get rid of it till the dvla have updated the city log book as they are a proper pain in the rear if you want to change anything

Thank you. I didn't know if I could still b held responsible for the shell as I don't have it and never seen it. Or do I inform
Dvla of this

Ok I'll go to dvla office after work nxt week and have a chat with them. Do any of you know how much an engine change should cost from 998 to 1275
I am not confident to do this myself with out messing it up

I strongly advise you NOT to go anywhere near DVLA - get the City MOTd and taxed for a year before you do anything - only then tell them the engine is a 1275.........And just keep the Cooper logbook meantime....... You really shouldn't have it if you don't have the shell for it but someday you or someone else may want to rebuild it using a NEW shell - that's perfectly legal.
